Everywhere Stew

K thought that phrase Lanre used sounded familiar. And then he recalled he had used it a certain time when he was planning to use Ify get Lanre jealous in order to get her attention. He smirked. He told Lanre he was not going to see her family so he could marry anyone else aside from her. Neither was he going so he could get one free. Lanre scoffed. She told him it was none of her business.

“Lanre! Why are you being so difficult?” K asked her. She abruptly ends the call. K tried to reach her again. But he did not get any response. Was she mad at him? He blew out some air. Then he started his car and drove off. At least, she was safe. That was the most important thing to him right now, her safety.

He drove off to the site to supervise. Looking at everyone he was using for the work, and how they all relate with him, K wondered if he was ready to give up this project and hand it over to another man. He had told his father he will use up a maximum of eight months. But it has been only five months and they have come this far. Perhaps they could finish the project in less than two months. If that’s possible, there will be no need to drop the project. He would just send Lanre away and join her once he is done with the project. He thought it was a perfect idea.

“Oga!” One of the workers at the site called. K looked towards the direction where the voice came from. It was Yetunde.

“Ah! Yetunde what’s up?” K said to as though they were good friends who had known each other for long.

“Everywhere stew Sir! I just wanted to tell you that two of the buildings you put me in charge of is already complete. We will need the carpenter to come do his job”. Yetunde said. K had given him some of the buildings to supervise. While the former supervisor still kept his job, but he didn’t have to supervise the one Yetunde was now in charge of. And the good thing was the other supervisor’s pay was not reduced. This was because his pay came from the company K used for the project. While Yetunde was being paid by K. His payment was weekly. K had resolved to this because he was aware of the situation in which Yetunde was in. And he was doing it because Yetunde was Lanre’s neighbour and she had promised to help him.

“Okay! Ask the other supervisor to call the carpenter. That is their job. Just do yours and get paid”. K said to Yetunde.

“Thank you Sir! I’m grateful for your help. Sir, please help me give this to her. My mother sent this bag. I’ve been waiting for you to come so I can give it to you to help me give her. It is a sign of my mother’s gratitude to Lanre. And I am also grateful for this grace”. Yetunde said. Tears already falling off his eyes.
