Still I Miss You

“Is she not yet back? Or she went out? She’s not at home?” K said. He was talking to Sharon in Lanre’s shop. Sharon shook her head. She told him Lanre has not returned. She told him they only communicated on phone the previous day because Lanre wanted to know if the beauty parlour was doing fine. K sighed. He tried to contact Lanre again with his phone right there but her phone was switched off.

“Please give me the number she used to reach you guys. I’ve been trying endlessly to get in touch with her but her phone is switched off”. K said. Since he has not been getting any signal from that line, he thought maybe Lanre has been able to find a way to deactivate him from from her phone. But when Sharon gave K Lanre’s number, it turned out that she actually had a new line.

He thanked Sharon after trying the new line and it went through. He had ended the call immediately before Lanre could answer the phone. He went into his car and redialed her number. Immediately she answered the phone, he activated a phone call tracker. He needed to know where she is, he was sure she would not tell him. So he had to do that.

But when he asked her, she did not hesitate in telling him she was in Warri. And true, he found out from the tracker that she was actually in Warri. He suddenly felt bad for thinking she won’t tell him where she was.

“How did you get my number though?” Lanre asked K. He told her he got it from those working in her shop. She just hummed and went ahead to ask if he had called only to know where she is currently. He told her it was part of it, but he has also called to know how she was doing and to let her know that he miss her. And that he would love for them to go on a date.

“Ok! That will be when I’m ready for the stress. I had come to Warri so I can rest for a while. Lagos just spells stress for me right now. I’m too lazy for all that”. Lanre said to K.

“Who are you even with in Warri? I mean, do you have anybody you know there?” K asked. He sounded worried and afraid. Lanre told him she was with Chidinma and her sister. So she was safe.

“Still I miss you! Lanre let’s try to make things work. My father already agreed that we will be coming to see your family soon. What do you think?” He asked. He really did not want to know her opinion for fear that she would reject him, but he thought he needed to know.

“Good for you people. My uncles, they have a lot of female children. They could let you marry one of their daughters and give you a second one as bonanza. Buy one, get one free”. Lanre said.
