Lanre finally left her apartment for the Governor’s residence. It was a good thing that Olasile was around. When she arrived, Olasile queried Tega for not bringing her on time. She kept talking about what she would have done if Lanre had lost her grandchild. Lanre smirked.
“It is not like people don’t die everyday? What difference would it make for a child that is yet to be born and is almost nonexistent to die?” Lanre asked. Olasile raised her hand almost landing it on Lanre’s cheek.
“I would slap your mouth if not that I’m considering the fact that you are pregnant. Don’t ever say such a thing with your mouth. Especially not when you are pregnant”. Olasile scolded. Lanre nods her head in acceptance, and they both walked in.
Olasile offered Lanre a seat where she could actually stretch out her legs. Lanre thanked her. Olasile told her not to bother that she was only doing it for her grandchild.
“I do not know what my son sees in you or what makes my husband think you will be the perfect daughter in-law. Still I have no choice but to accept you. At least you are smart. But that does not mean I won’t get my son a second wife”. Olasile said. Lanre smiled. Her fist tightened. Her eyes were piercing deep into Olasile’s. It was as though she was going to rip off the women’s heart. What makes the woman think if she should marry her son, she would let him get a second wife?
“Mommy, you don’t have to worry about me. You can get Kehinde as much wives as you wish to get him. I won’t mind. The least I can do is go live with grandma in Akure”. Lanre said. She had not tended to say that. It just had to slip out of her mouth.
Olasile asked her how she knew about the old woman. Lanre smirked. She recalled what K had told her. The woman had taken care of Olasile only for Olasile to abandon her at her old age. But thankfully, the woman’s sons were rich as well. If not the woman would probably be suffering.
“Kehinde took me there. She thinks we are already married. I don’t know why Kehinde had to lie to her that we are married”. Lanre said. To Olasile, it was as though someone was sticking needles into her ears.
“When? Hope you did not tell her you are pregnant o? Hope she did not touch your stomach? Ye! Olomaje? God forbid bad thing! Is that why your stomach has been paining you?” Olasile placed her hands on her head.
Lanre shook her head. This woman really does believe that the old woman is a witch.
“Mommy don’t worry! Even if she touched my stomach, it will be the biggest blessing I have received since I got pregnant”. Lanre said. Olasile eyes her disapprovingly.
Lanre decided to go ahead with what actually brought her before Olasile would become hostile with her.
“Mommy, hope I can still keep my job even though you will no longer have to pay me? I do not like how you look now”. Lanre said.
