One of the reasons why Lanre had gone to Warri aside her trip to Ekpoma, Eno’s maternal place, was to prevent herself from doing anything rash. This was after she had find out what actually happened to Ebube. It was Ify who told her at first. She did not believe her initially that Governor Adewale was responsible for Ebube’s death. But after hearing Ify’s story, she had no option but to believe. No wonder the government refused to release his corpse to her saying the state will bury him. And worst was that despite her plea to the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ebube’s death, they wrote it off as cult clash which she knew was not true.
Knowing K’s father was the one responsible for Ebube’s death, it made her push K away despite wanting to be close with him. She believed at the end, they will become enemies for what she is about to do is handing Governor Adewale to his enemy. She does not care what happens and what the outcome will be, she just knows that she will be getting her revenge for Ebube. He did not deserve to die that way and be written off as a criminal.
Just then her phone rang. A smile swept across her lips. It was no other person but the grandmother of her unborn child. She had called her earlier before now. The woman had not answered. But Lanre was confident she will call back after seeing her message stating that it was Lanre and she had lost her phone.
“Why did you call me this morning?” Olasile’s voice came out harsh. Lanre sniffed.
“Mommy, Kehinde asked me to call you”. Lanre said. The woman was taken aback that Lanre called her mommy. She asked Lanre when she became her mother.
“Kehinde asked me to come to you so you could look after me since he is busy. I don’t know what is wrong. I keep having cramps. Hope am not about to lose my baby. Kehinde will lose it if we lose our baby”. Lanre said.
Olasile sighed. She sounded confused when she was talking. She was asking Lanre if it hurts and she should come over to the house. And then she asked her not to and that she will send a car. Then she told Lanre to come with her car and that her driver should bring her.
“Mommy don’t worry! My driver will drive me down. It means a lot to me that you care about the baby too”. Lanre said.
“Which baby?” Olasile asked. She taps her forehead. She told Lanre she was sorry and was just confused. Then she asked Lanre ti start coming.
After the call has ended, Lanre sat back down on the couch and crossed her leg.
“Ha! I can’t remember the last time I had cramps. I think it was the first month or so. I thought it was my period coming and thaty system had changed cause I usually do not get the cramps”. Lanre said. The sighed and relaxed a little. She would go when she feels like.
