“Back from school? How did your lessons go?” Lanre asked immediately Eno entered the house. Eno who was about shutting the door got scared out of her wits. She was not expecting Lanre to be home. She had not even expected anyone to be around. The voice had reached her like a bomb and it startled her. She had her hand to her chest as if supporting her heart and preventing it from falling.
“Did I get you startled? Sorry!” Lanre said and took her focus on the television. She was watching a TV series. Eno looked at it. She made a poker face. Then she snorted afterwards. She has never seen Lanre watching a TV series before.
“You did not go to work today? I thought you left this morning?” Eno said. Lanre told her she was done with her clients for the day. And that most of her works were scheduled for the weekend. She will be attending three weddings, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Eno nods her head showing that she understands.
“When are we going to court?” Eno asked Lanre. Lanre told her she would be the only one going and that would be the following coming. Eno frowned. She told Lanre she would love to tag along as she wanted to see how the court proceedings would be like for herself. Lanre told her no matter what she said, she was not going with her.
“This is not fair!” Eno cried. Lanre told her life itself is not fair.
“Whatever!” Eno muttered and dragged herself to her room. Lanre smiled. She felt like she was already a mother even before giving birth. She was happy because Eno was now free with her completely.
Lanre thought about the court issue. A smile crept into her face. Finally Mrs. Okafor will be getting what she deserved. Lanre was so sure that the judiciary will not fail her. She believed there was nothing Mrs. Okafor could do to help herself now. But more to this was the bigger picture. She has already registered under a party. It was neither the party K’s father belongs to, nor was it the one of which senator Ojo was a member. She had chose to join the Nigeria Youth Movement Progressive Party (NYMPP). It was not one of those well known parties in the country. But she believed if they could all work together, then they can start occupying positions in the country and will eventually rise.
As for senator Ojo, she has already prepare his destruction. But before she will get rid of him, she will use him one last time.
“If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his vengeance need not be feared”, this was one of Niccoló Machiavelli’s quote cut out from his book “The Prince”. One that Lanre loves so much and would love to put to use. She will make sure the Governor pays for his crime and also get rid of senator Ojo in a way that neither of them will be able to hurt her afterwards.
