Art Only Understand The Heart

“Relax, I’m doing it for the both of your. I doubt Greatness has had enough time to socialise. I know what it feels like to keep yourself out of the crowd. It’s boring”. Lanre said. She told Eno that it is good to mingle with different people sometimes. That way she could learn of their characters and know how to relate with different people.

“I will have to read a book for that. There’s no need going into the crowd once in a while. Not ever!” Eno said. Lanre told her it was not an option that she will have to attend the party.

“If you make friends, good friends, you will lead a good and a happy life. You will have help when you need one. And the people who will have your back will not be few. You need friends”. Lanre said. Her thoughts went back to when she was in school. While she was trying not to make friends, she should have at least been in talking terms with everyone. But she never bothered. So everyone believed whatsoever they heard about her.

Eno after much reluctance agreed she will go to the birthday party. So later that evening, Tega drove her down to Isaac’s place, Greatness tagging along as per Lanre’s instruction.

When the two arrived and Isaac came to welcome them, he thought Greatness was Eno’s brother and Eno didn’t bother to correct that. Neither did Greatness.

“Happy birthday Isaac!” Eno said. He thanked her. She handed him a box.

“My aunt picked it up for you. She asked me to wish you a happy birthday on her behalf”. Eno said. Isaac thanked her and ushered them into the house.

Greatness could not help but look around the house. He was amused by how gigantic the house was, and it’s beauty inside was second to none. The decor seemed perfect to him. On the wall was a painting of an African mother pounding something in a mortar with her baby tied to her back. She had a scarf tied on her head. The wrapper on her waist seem to be falling off.

“You enjoy art?” Eno asked Greatness when she noticed what was taking his attention. He shook his head. To him he knew nothing about art. He never went to school to understand things like this. They were not for him.

“You can go to an art school if you are interested. Aunty Lanre will sponsor you”. Eno said to him yet again.

“I no sabi all these things. I dropped out after my junior secondary school final exam”. Greatness said. Eno told him that art does not require English or mathematics. And neither does it understand philosophy. She told him art only understand the humans heart and obeys his creative ability.

“I am sure you understand the painting on the wall. I know you are learning something already. But this can be a part of your side hustle”. Eno said. Greatness nods his head even though he was not sure he wanted to do it.
