What She Was Not Trying To Say

Lanre decided to call K this time. K on the other hand, when he saw her call, a smile crept on his lips. She has been calling people and he had wondered if she would ever call his line even if it was a mistake. So receiving a call from her made him happy.

“Hey! What’s up?” He had asked immdiately he answered the call. For a brief moment Lanre was silent. She did not say anything to him. He thought she ended the call until he looked at it to find out that the call was still ongoing but she was silent.

“Lanre!” He called softly.

“I miss you!” Lanre said hurriedly as though there was burning coal in her mouth. K asked her to repeat the word she said since he did not hear her the first time.

“I don’t repeat words. Are you busy?” She asked. He told her he was not really busy.

“I’m only asking because the baby wants to see her father. It’s not like I would call you and ask you to come. I would not even say I miss you”. Lanre said.

“What do you want me to get for you while coming?” K asked Lanre. He already understands what she was trying not to say. She wanted to see him. And he was going to make himself available for her.

“You should get something nice for Eno. I do not need anything”. Lanre said and hanged up. K could not help the laughter that erupted out of his heart. He felt happy. He immediately rushed to dress up and left his house to go meet Lanre. On his way, he bought a lot of chocolates and ice-cream. He got food from the eatery and snacks. He just bought things filling four big nylons. Things Lanre and Eno put together will not be able to finish in two days.

But he did not care. He was excited. Lanre wanted him around her and that was enough. Even though she had used the baby that is yet to be born as an excuse for seeing him, he did not mind. To him, that was the sweetest thing.

Meanwhile, Lanre after ending the call with K decided to call someone. It was somebody she had never thought she would end up fighting with one day in her life.

“Hey, Ify!” Lanre called when Ify picked up her phone.

“Lanre, what’s up?” Ify had asked over the phone.

“Nothing much. Just wanted to say I’m sorry! I was wrong too. I should have at least replied your chats. Besides I rejected his proposal in the first place. I endangered your life by releasing that video, for that, I’m sorry”. Lanre said to Ify over the phone. She told Ify she wished she was right before her, then she would go on her knees and the apology would look sincere enough.

“Lanre, we were all stupid for a brief moment. My mom is here. Would you like to talk with her. She keeps asking after you. I told her we settled already”. Ify said.
