Lanre agreed to speak with Ify’s mother. Just like I’m the past, the woman spoke to Lanre as though Lanre was her own daughter. She asked Lanre when she would come to visit and told her to be good with what she was doing. Lanre could not help but feel bad. She thanked the woman for her kind words of advice. She told her she does not know when she will visit, but whenever she has the chance to, she would. The mother gave the phone back to Ify. Lanre asked Ify if she was yet to start serving. Ify told her she did not really register for NYSC. Lanre asked her why.
“I thought I was going to get married. I wanted my honeymoon to last. Omo, somehow I wanted the marriage to work, same time not wanting it to. What about you?” Ify asked Lanre. Lanre told her she was working it out. And that she would pay.
“Corruption! If you know you are not ready to leave your work yet. You should have wait till next year”. Ify said to Lanre. Lanre sighed. She told Ify she had no choice. And that someone talked her into it.
“The Lanre I know does not listen to people”. Ify said. Lanre scoffed. She asked Ify if that was the only way she saw her.
Ify asked Lanre if she was beginning to take things personal. She told Lanre she did not mean she never listened to people in the negative sense. She told her she only meant she was thickheaded and would not do shit she knows is not okay.
“Well, I guess I considered this one”. Lanre said. There was about a minute of silence afterwards. It felt awkward. Lanre decided to break it. She told Ify she will be going to court regarding the case with her aunt, Mrs. Okafor. She asked Ify if she would be present.
“Of course I have to be there. I should thank you for letting me go despite my being implicated by my aunt”. Ify said.
“Still I have to go”. Ify said yet again.
“I guess I will see you there then. Till Thursday love!” Lanre said to Ify. They said their goodbyes over the phone and hung up.
Lanre checked the time on her phone. It was way past 4pm already.
“Why is he taking so long to arrive?” She muttered. Just then her phone rang. She looked at the caller’s ID displayed on the phone screen. It was Pascal calling. She picked up. She answered the phone. She asked him why he called.
Lanre frowned when Pascal told her the reason he had called. She immediately asked him to call Sharon and Aisha. And that they should share the money among themselves. She told him she was not available, then she ended the call.
“Rubbish! After telling me she has a friend that will do her make up on her wedding, she is calling us at the last minute to come to her aid”. Lanre said. It turns out that the bride she was supposed to makeup had cancelled her out whilst depending on a friend. But at the last moment got disappointed and had turned back to LANs Beauty to help her save the day. But Lanre has decided not to go.
