A Woman That Cannot Be Controlled

Lanre asked K if he needed anything from her that made him to ask her not to leave the house. He told her he just wanted her to be home and that he was coming to get her. If Lanre should be with him, then senator Ojo would not want to hurt him because he was now in alliance with his father. Although he was not sure of this himself, it was the best he could think of.

“I’m sorry, but I’m already on my way to the airport. I am not going to miss my flight for any reason. Whatever you have to do can wait”. Lanre said to K.

“Shit!” K muttered within his breath. He asked Lanre to tell him exactly where they have gotten to, she told him they were currently in a hold up. But she was pretty sure they would be out of it soon.

“Give the phone to your driver let me talk to him”. K said. Lanre refused. She asked him to tell her what he wants to tell Tega.

“Will you ever listen to me?” K asked her. She did not answer.

“I told you, didn’t I? I told you I will go crazy if anything bad should happen to you! Lanre get out of the car. Find a way out of that place. Leave you car. Take a taxi and come to back. Or better still, meet me at Oshodi. I will take you with me from there”. K said to her.

“Seriously Kehinde? Do you think I’m a woman you can control?” She asked him. She told him if he checks her entire body, and even if they were to tear her up, he will not find any battery inside her. And that means she cannot be controlled by anyone.

“And please, get that thought of us getting married out of your head. The only thing we will ever have together is this baby in my womb”. Lanre said.

K sighed. He felt frustrated because of Lanre’s stubbornness.

“Please!” He pleaded in a soft tone. Lanre decided at that moment to hang up on him. K decided to drive towards Ikeja instead. By the time he got to where there was hold up, the road was already free.

So he decided to call Lanre again. He wanted to know if she already got to Ikeja but her phone was busy. He wondered who she could be talking to on the phone. He decided to check. It was Eno. Isn’t Eno supposed to be in school? So why was Eno calling Lanre by this time?

He decided to listen in.

It turns out that Eno was begging Lanre that they turn back because she forgot her assignment note in the car, and they were submitting the assignment that morning.

“Aunty Lanre na! Please tell uncle Tega to reverse na! I need my book”. Eno said to Lanre.

“Enowa, don’t you know that I’m on my way to the airport. Once I get to the airport, Tega will come with your book to the school. So hang up”. Lanre said to Eno over the phone.
