Ethan sat down on the dining, eating silently while his mother and twin younger sisters chattered loudly while they ate. He didn't want to join in their conversation because mother would remind him that he was supposed to bring a woman back home and introduce to them. He didn't understand why his mother was so particular about him getting married. His two younger sisters where married and he wasn't.
They got married at very young ages. The first Fiona, married at the age of twenty one and has a lovely son, Victor, while his youngest sister, Flora, got married a year ago when they turned twenty-four and she was expecting a baby, that was exactly what they were talking about.
He was the only male on the table. His father had died long ago and had left him alone with his family. He ate his food hurriedly so that he could leave the table, to avoid the only topic his mom has chosen to always bring up when he was around. He was done with his food and wiping him mouth when his youngest sister turned to him and asked.
"Isn't it true, Ethan?"
Ethan felt all eyes on him, they even stopped eating to face him. The truth was that he didn't even know what they were talking about. He knew they were saying something about Flora's pregnancy but, he wasn't really listening and when she caught him off guard with that question, he just sat there and stared at the only three women in his life.
"Ethan, are you alright? You have been sitting quite all through our conversations and you ain't even making any contributions," Fiona said.
"Is it work? Girl drama...?" Flora started before he could answer.
Oh, shit! Oh, shit! Not now Flora! Don't mention 'girl' to mom's hearing. He glanced at his mom and her eyes were fixed on him.
"Uhm..." his words trailed off as his mother started talking.
"Ethan doesn't have a girl that would give him drama," his mother said and sipped her juice.
He wasn't scared of his mother, she wasn't someone to be scared of. In fact, she was the most amiable person he knew, but she was desperate for him to get married. It's not like he didn't like women, in fact, he loved them and he had dated a couple of women, but he had not found any of them worthy enough to bring home. His last relationship was a total disaster.
He had been attracted to this crazy woman, it was her craziness that had attracted him to her. He even knew that she carried a revolver in her handbag, wherever she was going to, but he still attached himself to her, until they had an argument and the next thing, she was shooting at him. He narrowly escaped with his life and never went back to her again. He never heard from her again. He blocked her off on all platform and was grateful that he came out out of it alive.
