BLIND DATE

He smiled nervously. The last thing he wanted was his mom talking about him bringing a girl home and introducing to her.

"I'm alright ladies," he said glancing at each of them.   "I have just been thinking about work lately, but it's really fine."

        "Oh, really?" his mom asked.

"Yes, mom," he said eyeing his mother.

His sisters turned to their food and continued eating. He kept the napkin and stood up and headed to his room. He didn't know why he felt like a failure. Marriage wasn't exactly what makes you feel like a failure, it wasn't even important, but his mother had made it so.

He went up to the room that used to be his and fell on the bed, spread his arms wide and gazed at the ceiling. In a matter of minutes, he slept of.

His eyes flared open when his door opened and his mom stepped into his room, her heels clattering to the ground. He sat up in bed as his mom came and stood hands akimbo at the edge of his bed.

            "Hey, mom."

"I found a girl you would like," his mother blurted.

"Mom, I'll find my own woman myself..."

"When? Look." His mom went over to the other side of the bed and sat down.   "She is a very good girl and she is pretty."

"I appreciate your concern mom, but, can you let me marry someone I love? You and dad married out of love, right?"

"Sometimes, you don't fall in love until you stay with the person."

        "I want a woman I found myself."

His mother ignored him and browsed through her phone gallery and handed him her phone.

He looked at the screen and saw a beautiful woman with an adorable smile.

          "What is this?" he asked.

"Her name is Melissa and she is in the living room right now."

Ethan remembered Melissa. She was a friend to one of the twin then, but that was for a short period, then he stopped seeing her. She had grown into a very beautiful and attractive woman with the perfect eyes. But, what was she doing in the living room?

"Why are you telling me that she is in the living room?"

"I invited her over and that was why I invited you too."

          "What?! Mom?"

           "Yes, Ethan."

"I won't go down to the living room to see her."

"Well, I told her you're interested in her and wanted to go out on a date with her. It would be rude if you are here and refuse to show up."

Ethan's eyes grew wide and his jaw dropped. What was she talking about?

"Did you just set me up on a date?"

"Yes and you are taking a lot of time. You shouldn't keep a lady waiting." His mother started leaving the room and stopped by the door. She turned and pointed towards his nightstand.

He followed her gesture and saw a bouquet of tulips sitting there. He hadn't noticed it when he came in.

"Be a gentle man and always get her tulips. She is not into roses."

"Do I smell a conspiracy here?" Ethan asked but his mother was already out of the room.

He sighed in exasperation, folded his hands into fists and hit his bed. He finally went down from the bed and walked to the mirror in his room and looked at his features. He arranged his hair with his fingers and straightened his tux. Since his mother had told her that he invited her, he would just go to her and see what it would turn out to be.

He left the room and started down the stairs, he could hear female laughter erupting from the living room. He wasn't ready for this, but he would see what he could do. He went down and caught a glimpse of Melissa. She was even more stunning in reality. She had long, wavy, burette hair, that was either natural or attachment, her skin was flawless and her hazel eyes glittered in the light of the room and her smile was infectious.

She wasn't bad, he might get to like her anyways. He went down the stairs and they all turned to look at him. He smiled at Melissa, she stood up and he went over and kissed her hand, the flower still tucked behind him. He didn't know what to say. He wasn't used to flattering girls.

         "You look...gorgeous," he said.

She smiled widely but shyly, exposing her perfect dentition. Ethan wondered how one person could be this perfect and it made him wonder why he never noticed her as a teenager. Her red dress accented her colour and gave her boobs a perfect lift. She was just so beautiful.

         "You don't look bad either."

He produced the flowers. "A beautiful gift for a beautiful soul."

Her eyes sparkled and she gasped and took the flowers from him.  "Wow these are beautiful!"  She smelt them.  "I love them."

"I'm glad you do," he said and turned to look at his sisters who were gasping and smiling.

His mom was at a corner, her hands clasped together, her face dreamy. They should just wait for him to come back. They would explain all of these to him. He arched his arm.

"Shall we?" he said looking back at the girl who was still admiring the flower.

"Yes, yes," she said sharply and slid her hand into his and they left the living room.
