AVOIDING ME?

Ethan opened the living room door, the phone placed on his ear. He was talking to Jennifer, making sure she had returned to her dorm safely. He had spent the whole day with her but he didn't stop thinking about what happened last night, he couldn't stop thinking of her lips on his, he couldn't stop thinking of the taste of wine from her lips, he couldn't stop thinking of her palm on his bare body. He couldn't stop thinking of her naked chest.

Sometimes, it was Jennifer who would snap her fingers on his face and bring him back to reality. He didn't know why he couldn't get that incident off his head. She was not the first woman he had kissed and probably not the last woman, he was going to kiss, in fact he had kissed Jennifer that morning and still he had not replayed the scene in his head. He was not even a hormonal teenager whose needs needed to be met. He was a grown adult, who was experienced, so why was he feeling like that?

He stepped into the house and caught Faith's back as she was running into her room. He stood there staring at her door. He started walking towards his room and glanced at where her typewriter was, there were a lot of crumpled papers scattered around the chair and table.

        "Ethan, are you there?"

"Oh, yes," Ethan replied and picked up a crumpled sheet and opened it up. He read her attempt to write something and gradually switch over to the incident of the past night. It made him wonder what she does for a living and the impact it was having on her.

"Ethan, are you there?" Jennifer asked from the other end.

       "Oh, yes," he replied again.

        "What is going on?"

"What's going on where?" he walked away from the typewriter.

"I don't know, you always seem distracted."

"Distracted? No, I'm not distracted. I just...I just came back."

"You said that a while ago. Can you tell me what's wrong? You can trust me..."

"Jenny, can you stop okay? Nothing's wrong here. I might probably be getting my room door—alright, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, if you feel I don't give you all the attention…"

"It is not the attention, I just want you to be available anytime we are together. You are always there but you seem not to be there at all."

"Oh, my God," Ethan said and rubbed his temple. He slot his keys into the door's keyhole and twisted, the door clicked open and he went into his room, but before closing the door, he glanced back at his roommate's door then he quietly closed his door and went and sat on the bed.

"Thanks for today I really enjoyed myself," Jennifer said cheerfully.

"I'm glad you did," Ethan said and smiled. He removed his shoes and took them to his shoe rack. He yawned.

"You must be very tired, let me go so that you can have enough rest."

"Alright then, sleep well" He hung up.
