I AM SORRY

Faith cried in the kitchen until she slept off, the bottle of aquavit standing in her front. She had been tired from work and had come back to meet the fight. After Ethan has persuaded Jennifer to go apologise to Faith and Jennifer blatantly refused, Ethan had decided to do it himself. Jennifer had packed her things and had left that night.

Ethan knocked at her door, but no answer came. He knocked again, but no answer came. "I'm coming in," he said and went in. The room was empty. She always has a way of keeping her room so neat that it appeals to him, her room had a fresh disinfectant smell to it and he always feels like staying back whenever he was there. He went over to the bathroom and knocked twice before he poked his head inside, but it was the same thing. She wasn't there.

He left her room and headed to the kitchen. When he was at the kitchen door, he saw her sprawled on the floor and he was alarmed when he saw the bottle of alcohol beside her. He quickly rushed to check her and was relieved to see that her chest was rising and falling in slow tempo. He carried the bottle of alcohol and put it away and made to lift her from the floor, but he stopped.

He had a good look at her, at her thick, heavy hair, at the pronounced lines of her eyebrows and eyelashes at her straight, small nose, at her curved lips which were now parted slightly in sleep. She was beautiful.

The memories of that other night, came flooding back into his head. He sat down there staring at her for a long while, then he decided to carry her to her room. He lifted her and carried her bridal style. She stirred, but didn't wake up, the alcohol from her mouth wafted into his nose and he had to shut his eyes to blurt that memory of their kiss, from that night.

He kicked her room door with his leg, went over to her bed and gently lay her there. He drew the side stool, sat on it, and stared at her beautiful face. She appeared even more beautiful while asleep. He sat there staring at her until sleep came and swept him away.

Faith stirred and stretched, she yawned and opened her eyes. She was in her room. She remembered sleeping off in her kitchen, why was she on her bed? She turned to lie on her side and saw a male's head. She jerked up from bed. It was Ethan.

What was he doing in her room? He stirred and raised his head, he looked at her.

       "Hey," he said.

"What are you doing here?" she asked clutching her bedsheet to her body.

         "I slept off here."

She glanced at her door, her eyes enlarging in confusion. He followed her gaze.

"She left," he said when he noticed that she wanted to know about his girlfriend.

"You need to leave now," she said.

"I'm sorry." She was mute. "I'm apologizing on her behalf, I promise it would never happen again.
