CHEERFUL ASSISTANT

Nora dropped her at her office and zoomed off again since her client was waiting in the office. She smiled all the way to her office as she recalled her discussion with Nora in the car. Nora was not going to kill her at all. Her assistant greeted her. She went into the office and her assistant followed her with a cup of coffee.

She was surprised that her assistant was presenting her with coffee. Her assistant has never done it since she resumed work. She was always doing things when she was asked to do them. She never talks to Faith, unlike Shelby who had stopped seeing Faith as an employer the next day and had got her gifts, because she was older than Faith.

Faith wanted to reject the coffee, not because she didn't trust her assistant, but because she didn't want to drink any more coffee. But she didn't reject it because she didn't want the lady to feel bad. She took the cup from her and thanked her.

"Your 1:30 appointments wanted to know if she could reschedule."

      "When?"

"Whenever you are disposed of. She had an emergency so she couldn't make it today."

Faith noticed that her assistant was different that day. She looked bright and happy. Faith was usually one to mind her business, but she kind of pried into her assistant's business. She knew sometimes being hyperactive was a symptom of a panic attack.

      "Are you alright?" she asked.

Her assistant smiled a shy smile. "I'm alright."

Faith didn't know how to press further, she just shrugged and continued what she was doing, then she noticed a big diamond ring on the fingers of her assistant. She stared at it not knowing if that ring has been there since the girl started working for her or not. She tried to remember the picture of the lady the first day she had come, but she still couldn't get if she had a ring on or not.

"One Mr Will Johnson booked three o'clock," her assistant continued.

"Alright." She just took her chances. "Looks like someone got herself engaged?"

The girl smiled so brightly and nodded her head. Faith knew it was a new engagement. She smiled

       "Congrats girl."

      "Thank you."

"Was that why you were moody when you first came?"

"We had issues and he went out of town without informing me. I tried reaching him but I couldn't so I decided to get a job to help me forget about him."

        "And you got this job."

"Yes. When Ms Nora told me that it was an assistant job to a therapist, I thought it would be better for me."

        "Oh, really?"

The girl nodded and picked up the files she had laid on the table. "But I came to love the job and he came back apologizing that he didn't know what came over him. He engaged me last night."

        "Wow, that's amazing."

"I know, right?" her assistant said and left. "I will invite you to my wedding as a guest of honour."

        "I'm already honoured."

The girl left the office. Faith leaned back on her seat and exhaled. The last statement the girl made about her lover coming back hit her.

"Everyone's lovers go back to them, except mine."
