FEELING BETTER

When Faith woke up, it was already morning. She looked at her phone screen it was 6:30 A.M. she shot up from the couch.

"Shit!" she said. She had slept off at Charlie's place. The place was still dark and she put her legs down and searched for her slippers. She slid her feet inside them and stood up. The house was still quiet and she figured Charlie must still be asleep, but that thought was cut short when a light came on in one of the rooms.

She figured that might be the kitchen, so she started heading towards it. She walked slowly and when she came to the door she realised she was right, she heard the clatter of plates and spoons. She reached for the handle to open it but stopped and withdrew her hand.

What if it was Charlie's boyfriend. She looked at the door handle again and contemplated going back to the living room and going straight home, but that would be very bad of her. Since she was trying to become a new and nicer person, she should just stay and thank Charlie at least for giving her a listening ear and for covering her up.

She decided that she was going into that kitchen. She placed her hand on the handle and slowly turned it. The door clicked open and she saw the kitchen utensils neatly hung on the walls. She slowly opened the door wider and the whining of the door caught the attention of whoever was in the kitchen and made him turn.

It was Charlie. He smiled that wholesome smile of his.

     "You are awake," he said

She stepped into the kitchen looking at how magnificent the whole place was. Then she nodded.

"I was going to make you breakfast in bed or couch rather—come sit —but you woke up earlier than I thought. How do you feel now?" He drew out a chair for her.

She sat down. "Thank you and I'm feeling much better now."

          "It's a relief."

"You know for a split second, I thought your boyfriend was back."

He put the scrambled egg on a plate and kept it in front of her. "My boyfriend is coming back today, do you wanna meet him?"

"Oh, no, no, no, I...since you said he is a reserved person, I don't want to make him uncomfortable. I could make do with his pictures."

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Doug never takes pictures."

         "That's his name?"

        "Yes, I guess."

       "You guess?"

"Yes, Douglas is very unpredictable he could wake up and decide that his name is no longer Douglas. I heard that he wasn't Douglas in his last relationship." Charlie brewed the coffee and placed it in front of her.

"Wow, he must be an interesting character. I used to have a brother that was gay."

          "Really? What happened?" Charlie inquired.

"It's a long story, but I will cut it short. He left because it wasn't conducive for him."

Charlie sipped from his mug and stared at her that.
