AFTERMATH

The next morning, Faith was awoken by one of the staff. Ethan was waiting for her in the car, she knew Ethan didn't sleep on the bed with her and her heart fell. She stood up and went to the bathroom. The staff packed her bags while she had her bath and got dressed. She wore double layers of clothes because she felt cold.

It was the chauffeur that opened the backseat for her and when she got in, she saw Ethan seating in the front seat. He was focused on his tablet when she entered. She looked at him for a while and relaxed back, folding her arms across her chest.

She never knew he was going to be this vexed if she gets pregnant. She didn't see anything wrong in getting pregnant, after all, they were getting married in a few weeks. She tried not to think of it and tried not to cry, but the tears kept threatening to come down. She didn't fathom why Ethan would make her feel this way and why he just ignored her like that. Last night, they had been so cool, how could one news ruin the whole moment like this?

Then she started blaming herself. Maybe, she shouldn't have gotten pregnant, maybe she should have waited. But, honestly, she had not missed those pills on purpose. She has completely forgotten about them. Then anger started to set in. She started to question why he wouldn't want a baby. It's not like she got pregnant by another man. Then she realised she was only being confused. She didn't know what to do. Then the tears fell, but she quickly wiped them away and kept looking out of the window.

"Our flight is in an hour, we would eat at the airport, you won't be able to go hungry in that situation."

"Situation?" She scoffed. "This is a situation now?"

"Faith, please let's not argue about this. Don't make it any worse than it already is, please "

Incredibility drew upon Faith's face. She looked at the chauffeur who was focused on the road and decided to keep her cool. She didn't want any scandal she would be appearing in and also she didn't want rumours to spark that maybe she was not Ethan Floyd's fiancée after all. She folded her arms and looked out of the window again.

Ethan went back to his looking at his tablet, not saying any other word to her until they got to the airport. He got down from the car and came and opened the car for her to come down, she eyed him and refused to come down.

       "What is wrong?" he asked.

"I will stay in the car until we are ready to leave."

"You have to eat," Ethan said through gritted teeth.

      "Well, I'm not hungry."

Ethan poked his head into the car. "You don't have to be so stubborn for everything, Faith. We are going back to Los Angeles and you—we need to have breakfast."

"I rather eat on the plane. It's your jet, right? I want to eat inside it."

"If that's what you want. We should go inside the plane and wait.

"I don't want to, I want to stay here."

"Faith, this man needs to go back and run some errands, you can't be in the car and he can't leave unless you get down."

"Then move away from the car, don't hold the door open for me. I will open it myself."

"You are beginning to irritate me with this irrational behaviour."

"Just don't hold the door open for me! I don't care what you think! Is that too much to ask?!"

"Suit yourself!" Ethan banged the car door.

Faith exhaled deeply and let the tears that had welled up in her eyes go away before she opened the door and decides to come out. Ethan was beside the car and they started walking toward the plane.

"You know, I knew you would put up this behaviour that is why I suggested we leave earlier before the press would catch this," Ethan said as they walked.

"That's all you care about, the press."

Ethan looked at her. "Don't put words in my mouth."

She didn't say anything else until they got to the plane. On the plane, Ethan still ignored her and concentrated on his tablet and she kept staring at him. The air hostess brought her a tray of food and kept it in front of her, she wanted to kick the whole meal away, she wanted to upturn that tray and screamed her lungs out, she imagined it, but that was only going to paint her off as irrational.

She just stared at the food, not wanting to eat it, Ethan was not even looking her way it was as if he had forgotten that she exists. She needed to call someone, she needed to talk to someone, she remembered her mother, she needed to cry to her mother. She slowly got up from her seat and started going towards the rest. Ethan didn't look up when she left nor ask her where she was going, which she had hoped he would do.

"Please, I want to be left alone in there," she said to the waitress.

       "Yes, ma'am."

She went in and sat down on the toilet seat for a while, looking up at the ceiling trying to control herself from bursting out, tears trekking down her temples. She sniffed after a while and wiped the tears away, she took out her phone and dialled her mother. Her mother answered after three rings.

"Hello, Faith dear, I'm sorry, I was in the kitchen. How are you, my child?"

Faith remained quiet for a while, tears welling in her eyes again she put her palm on her nose, covering it so that she won't sob out.

"Hello, Faith, are you there?" her mother asked, concern lining her voice.

Faith inhaled and exhaled deeply. "I'm pregnant."

"Oh, my God! My baby! You are pregnant!"

"I thought you would be mad."

       "Mad? Why?"

Because Ethan is so mad at me, he doesn't even want the baby. "Because it should be after marriage."

"You are getting married in a week, my love. I know you might feel you have sinned against God, but we are all humans and we make mistakes, alright."

Faith was sobbing uncontrollably now. "He doesn't want the baby."

        "What?!"

"He doesn't want the baby, he doesn't even want to look at me, he doesn't..."

"Is he denying being the father of the baby?"

"No, no, not that," Faith sniffed and wiped her tears. "He is not happy that I'm pregnant, he said he doesn't want any babies now."

"Is there a reason for that?"

        "I don't know?"

"Did he tell you that before now?"

"That is it. He did but this pregnancy was a mistake."

"Your child is not a mistake," her mother rebuked. "He or she can never be a mistake."

        "Yes, ma."

"Now, he didn't give you any reason why he doesn't want the baby?"

"At first, he said it wasn't proper to get pregnant before marriage."

"It's enough. Stop crying, alright. He is just upset by the news for now, but he would calm down and everything would go back to normal."

       "Alright, ma."

       "Stop crying, alright."

"It hurts. I wanted a baby, but how come he doesn't?"

       "Stop crying," her mother said.

        "Alright, ma."

Faith wiped her tears and stopped sobbing. She sat there for a while waiting to calm down.

Ethan looked at her seat and didn't see her, he stood up and started going towards the restroom. He met the hostess that Faith had given instructions.

       "Where is she?"

"She went into the restroom. She said not to disturb her."

"Bullshit," Ethan said and went into the restroom, he knocked on the door but no answer came, he waited for a while. "Faith are you alright?"

Faith did not reply, and Ethan knocked again. "Go away! What do you want?"

        "Are you alright?"

       "What do you care?!"

"I hope you are not hurting yourself?"

Faith didn't reply, she splashed water on her face and looked at herself in the mirror for a while before she came out. Ethan was standing in front of there looking at her. She didn't say anything to him, she just went inside the plane and resumed her seat, beckoning for the hostess to come.

"Take these away, please. I'm not hungry."

      "Alright, ma'am."

Ethan reappeared and took his seat again without saying anything. They remained quiet until they landed in San Francisco. Even when Faith tried to initiate a conversation between Ethan and her, he just sounds like he wasn't interested and his tablet just became his best friend. He was either looking at his tablet or looking at his tablet.

She slept off and woke up in the evening, when she woke up, he was nowhere in the house and he didn't leave her a message. She took her phone and dialled Nora, she needed some advice because she couldn't just continue like that. She asked Nora to meet up and also called Charlie too.
