For the next few days, Ethan and Faith spent time, going to interesting places in San Francisco. They went to the cinema, they went to the mall, they went on that glider tour, they had a lot of fun and made love everywhere. In the shower, in the kitchen, in the pool, in the garden, in the bedroom, in the car etc. It was a hell of an adventure for them and then Nora and Danny's wedding drew closer and they had to return to Los Angeles for the wedding.
Faith woke up that morning when her phone rang, she opened her eyes and picked up the phone from the nightstand. Charlie flashed on the screen, and she smiled. She knew he was going to bite her ears off for not calling him all this while. She sat up and answered the call.
"Hello, bestie."
"I am so mad at you right now."
Faith decided to play ignorant. "Oh, my God, why?"
"Don't dare play ignorant with me."
"Busted. I'm sorry."
"You don't even have a word to defend yourself?"
Faith sat up and realised that Ethan was not in bed and she wondered where he had gone so early in the morning.
"I'm so sorry, Charlie is not like I forgot to call you, but I am really very busy over here, trying to adjust...you know," she said, hoping that sounded right or even made a better excuse.
The truth was that she always had it in mind to call them, but the past few days have been crazy. It was either they were visiting somewhere or they were making love and by the end of the day, she was as tired as ever. She always gets so tired that she could hardly raise a finger and she was usually not that tired before now.
"Is that all you've got to say?" Charlie's voice asked from the other end.
"Forgive me, Charlie, but believe me, I do have it in mind to call both you and Nora, but it just gets...you know..." She huffed when she couldn't fund a word to complete the sentence.
There was silence at Charlie's end. Faith waited like a defendant found guilty and waiting for a sentence to be passed.
"I was just kidding, baby girl," Charlie burst. "I knew I got you right there."
"You sure did, oh, my God." Faith placed her palm on her forehead.
"Where are you right now?" he asked.
"Where else? I'm still in bed."
"Like you are just waking up?"
"Yeah, your call woke me."
"You are still asleep by this time of the day?"
"What time?" Faith asked and looked at the wall clock and gasped. "Oh, my God, it's almost afternoon!"
"I think I understand the reason why you don't call us now."
Faith pushed the bedsheets aside and climbed out of the bed. "I don't know why I wake so late these days, maybe because I always sleep tired." She went to the window and opened the curtain. It was very bright.
"Wow, you are living the luxury life, it's pretty normal to relax. So when are you back? Nora's wedding is in a few days."
"Yeah, we are coming tomorrow."
"Make sure you see me when you come."
"Sure."
Faith's room door opened and one of the staff came in and genuflected. Faith nodded her reply. Then all of a sudden her head began to spin. She heard Charlie talking on the phone but she didn't understand him, then she suddenly felt her feet being swept off the floor and her body falling, her phone fell off her hand. The staff saw her falling and rushed towards her immediately. She was quick to catch her before she hit the floor.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" the staff asked shaking her.
She regained consciousness and frowned. She didn't just understand what had happened. The staff helped her to stand straight.
"What happened?" she asked.
"I don't know, you started falling, I had to catch you."
"Thank you," Faith said and sat on the bed looking confused.
Charlie was still on the phone, trying to know what went wrong. The staff picked up the phone and handed it over to her. She took it and put it to her ear again.
"Hey, Charlie."
"What happened Faith?"
"I don't know, my head just spun. I need to go to the hospital."
"Alright, please do and call me when you get back."
"I will."
"Alright, bye."
"Bye, Charlie."
"Is there something you would want me to do ma'am?" the maid asked.
"Yeah, please I need to get to a good hospital. Er... Please don't tell Ethan about this for now."
"Alright, ma'am. I shall go and prepare your bath."
"Thank you so much."
"It's my job ma'am. I will tell Clinton to drive you to the hospital where Mr Floyd goes for his treatments and checkups."
"No, I appreciate it, but I want another hospital where he is not involved."
"Okay, I know one or two places that are good for you. I shall take you there."
"Perfect, thank you."
"Mr Floyd made you breakfast before he left, he instructed to serve you when you are awake. I shall go microwave it before you are done bathing."
"Thank you."
The staff smiled and walked toward the bathroom to prepare her bath.
A few hours later, Faith was seated in front of a lean doctor, with bulging eyes and large, round glasses that magnified his eyes. She didn't understand what he just said to her a few seconds ago, so she just stared blankly at him.
"You are pregnant," he repeated.
She blinked. "Well, that's weird because I wasn't pregnant a few weeks ago. I ran the test."
"You are two weeks pregnant."
"Why am I getting the symptoms when it's just two weeks?"
"These things differ from person to person," the doctor said with a smile. "Some women get their symptoms as early as the first week."
"Oh, my God," Faith didn't know if she should be joyous or sad. A part of her was screaming excitedly but another part knows that Ethan had said no babies yet. "But I was on pills," she said.
"If you were, maybe you must have missed them. Did you miss your pills?"
"A few times."
"That does it. Well, congratulations Miss Prescott."
"Thank you, doctor. I'm happy, I really am," Faith said, the joyous part of her overwhelming her. "It's just that, my partner thinks it's too early to make babies, but who cares? Babies are bundles of joy? He might change his mind when he gets this news."
"A lot of people do," the doctor said with a smile.
"Thank you, doctor."
"You are most welcome."
Faith didn't stop there. She went to several other hospitals and they confirmed it. She was overwhelmed. She was relieved when she got home and Ethan wasn't at home. She decided to prepare his favourite dish and make the evening romantic. With the help of the staff, she made the dishes and decorated the bedroom and the bed with rose petals.
She was setting the table when Ethan came back. He looked surprised but pleased. She walked up to him, hugged him and kissed him. He kissed her back quite surprised.
"I see candles, roses and sumptuous dishes, what are we celebrating?"
"Life and love," she replied.
"Hmm, love that."
She led him to the table, he opened the dishes one after the other, taking in the aroma while she rubbed his back, beaming with smiles.
"I see you took your time to make this," he said turning to face her. "This was very needed, I had a hectic day at work today."
"Oh, go change then and come down for your dinner, I will be waiting."
He drew her to him and their body clashed and still sent those sparks up. No matter how many times they touch, each touch was always filled with those little sparks. He kissed her slowly and then pulled away, and left her yearning for more.
"Why don't you go up with me then we would come back down together?"
"No way. If I go up with you, we won't come down here until tomorrow morning, so, please go freshen up and come down for dinner."
He stared at her for a while with a smile on his face. She was tempted to go up with him. But she needed to make it special. She shook her head and pushed him towards the stairs.
"You can't compel me, Mr Romantic. Now go and freshen up."
Ethan made a face and started whining as she pushed him and left him at the foot of the stairs. "I feel like they rejected alpha."
They burst into laughter as he pranced up the stairs. She watched him until he was out of sight. She smiled and rubbed her stomach before she went and sat on one of the couches.
Dinner went well, they ate and talked about a lot of things, teased each other and laughed about it. After dinner, they drank wine and danced to slow sensual music, which heated things between them and landed them in the bedroom on the bed and yet another night of adventure.
After making love, they lay on their backs giggling like kids. Then Faith turned to lie on her side and face him, she placed her arm on his chest and stroked his cheeks.
"You need to sleep early so that you would be able to wake early tomorrow morning. We are leaving very early in the morning," he said and turned to face her. "These days, you sleep like a pregnant woman."
She knew that was the opportunity she had been looking for and she had to seize it. She had been looking for an opportunity to break the news to him, but it wasn't presenting itself. Now, it has finally presented itself.
"What if I'm pregnant?" she asked.
He stared at her without saying anything for a while. "You have been taking your pills right?"
"I missed a few times," she said almost in a whisper.
"You are not pregnant then, are you?"
She didn't answer, the look in her eyes told him she was pregnant. He sat up in bed, still staring down at her.
"Tell me you are not pregnant."
"But I am. I went to the hospital today."
"Shit!" he covered his face with his palms.
She sat up and shifted closer to him and held his shoulder. "Hey, it's not bad..."
He pushed her hands away, threw the sheets aside and started to get out of bed.
"Where are you going to?" she asked. He did not answer, he just went down, took his shorts and wore them. "What are you going to say about it?"
"I don't want to talk about it okay?!" he snapped, making her jerk back in surprise. He left the room without saying any other thing.
She sat there looking at him in surprise and confusion until he closed the door behind him.
