Chapter 105

As it is with men of conscience, when they go astray, they lose sleep. They will always have this battle in their mind due to the wrong they have done. One way or the other, they will begin to avoid either the place they find as influencing them to do so, or the people. This is a general concept of doing wrong, but a particular wrong that seem difficult is that of cheating sexually, greater percentage of such men of conscience do feel bad once they get involved, but with time, they tend to forget all that happened and if peradventure another seductive lady mounts pressure, they probability of falling is there. Some of such men who supposedly are stronger, tend to stick to their wife, girlfriend or lover, even after the fling they had outside. This group will do anything it takes to avoid cheating always even though they fail, it is always rare.

This was the group Mike found himself, in as much as he had cheated as he believed, on Olivia, he was still holding her so strong in his heart. He had tried severally to picture or hold on one reason for his conviction about her, but nothing came to his mind. All he knew was that his instinct was pointing towards her.

When he heard the knock on the door, he knew it was Cindy, this was because he never called the room service. He also was sure of this as he had turned off his phone so as not to get calls from her and Margaret. All the while he had been in the room, he had the entire scene at D Maggie playing over his head. He wouldn't have believed that a lady could go that far spending time and money just to win his heart. This always brings to mind the difference between what he does see on other women and the simplicity nature of Olivia. She had never done anything to attract him, even as she was that stupendously rich. He was even the one trying so hard to win her heart and he believed, that was what it should be. 

Cindy quietly walked into the room, she shut the door behind. She stood for a while unti Mike asked that she say down. By this time, Mike had returned to his bed and lay down facing up.

I was worried Mike, I tried your line all through, it was not reachable. She said. 

Mike had a lot in is mind, he thought of telling her the truth, being that he went to see a lady and slept over at her place, he felt it would be a bad one on his personality, it would also show him as being mean and insensitive to Cindy. This part of him was always a weakness he needed to work on, he had this consideration mindset (soft spot) for ladies. He knew Cindy met him before Margaret, and Cindy had wanted him to sleep over in her room that night, he insisted and overcame the urge, so it would be very bad of him to tell her in her face that he slept over at another ladies house.

I am sorry, I went for business, but the meeting ended late. He lied.

One thing he hated was to be pressured, now that he had lied, he knew she would ask further question or worst still nag. To his disappointment, Cindy accepted his excuse without further questions, she rather apologized for interfering in his private affairs. Having said that, she stood up, walked towards the door to go back to her room. Mike never saw it coming, he had expected her to approach him and possibly seek his attention, what he didn't know was that her action and the entire decency attitude was a trap. She opened the door, but before she could step out, Mike asked her for a dinner together that evening. It was his way of making things up to her.

Once again Mike was alone, he thought of reaching out to Pat to get information on Olivia, but he wouldn't know how she would feel about that, he wasn't ready to let them know he was now talking, and sending a message to ask after Olivia might hurt her. While he was contemplating on his next move, his phone which he had just switched on rang. He checked the number, it was Margaret calling. He dropped the phone on the bed, and allowed it ring all through. The call came back the second time, he refused picking it. He wasn't ready to talk to her, his mind was fixed on finding a solution to whatever issue that was keeping Olivia and himself apart. He decided to send Olivia a message before going on the date with Cindy. This way, his conscience would be clear, he felt. Mike drafted a short message and sent it to Olivia, it was more of a reaching out message to know how she was fairing and to let her know he had her in mind.

Olivia was with Mira and their Mom when Mike's message came in. She paused for a second to see what the tone on her phone was about, when she saw it was a message and that it came from Mike, she got confused. She didn't want her mom and sister to know what happened, so she continued with the discussion. She and Mira had gone to visit their mom in her apartment so as to get her interpretation of Olivia's dream. When they got their, mom was preparing fried rice and chicken, the twin sisters pérceived the aroma from the front door, this made them forget what they were there for. They rushed into he kitchen to help their Mom, though it was more of a disguise in order to have access to the fried chicken. Their mom who was always happy each time they visited her, told them to get more from the freezer. They took much time frying more chicken amidst play and chat. Finally they dished out their food and headed to the dinning where they did Justice to the meal. It was after the meal that the issue of the dream was brought up, their Mom took time to educate them on dreams before giving them an interpretation. She made them understand that it doesn't necessarily mean that dreams must come out in reality the way it was seen, rather it sometimes come as a caution for events that may happen in the near future. The girls took turns to ask their Mom several general questions and particularly Olivia's dream. She explained to them that it might be possible, either Mike had moved on with another lady, or he would soon. 

Olivia was not comfortable with the interpretation, she wouldn't be able to handle it, if at the end she loses Mike to someone. She knew it would affect her both psychologically and emotionally, not to talk of Pat. She (Pat) wouldn't mind leaving Paris never to see her again, as she had done all she could to see that she (Olivia) and Mike reconciled. She thought of replying the message, but the family decision was an angle she must consider. Her mother and Mary had taken their time to convince their Dad which was a good one for her. She received a message from her Dad all of a sudden encouraging her not to give up on her dream. Not withstanding the 'good news' of her pregnancy. She made sure she read the words in quote thrice, she wonders why the father would call it a good news, but the answer was not far fetched, she knew he had bought aunty Mary's idea. She thought of Mike, what if he finally found out she was pregnant for him, won't he come for the child, or sue her and her family. The thought kept troubling her, that she decided to let her mom and sister know about the message she got. They read the message and from the tone, Mrs Hart could see reasons with the daughter as regards the kind of man Mike was. However, she told her to have patient, as it wouldn't take long before everything would be settled.

Mike waited, kept checking and expecting a reply from Olivia, when it seemed to him none was coming, he consoled himself that he had done his part. He had few hours before the dinner with Cindy, he wished he had put the time earlier than 6pm, he wouldn't know what he was to be doing in the room until that time. He took up his phone again and sent a message to Pat, luckily for him, she was online, so they had to chat for sometime which worked to his advantage. H used the chat to while away time making his waiting shorter. Although he couldn't directly enquire about Olivia from Pat, but he got to know she was okay as Pat told him she was in Paris and now worked for Olivia's family. He believed that if there was something wrong, Pat would have somehow mentioned it. When they were through with the chat, he dropped the phone, had a quick shower and dressed up for the evening outing. Mike totally forgot that Margaret called earlier, his initial plan was to drop massage afterwards giving her one reason or the other why he missed her call. He was so fortunate when Margaret called back. This time he picked, while he tried to apologize, Margaret told him she was just about to get into the car, on her way to the Hotel. Mike was shocked, he could picture what drama that might have happened assuming she came to the hotel and met him with Cindy. He smartly calmed her down with sweet words and promised to see her the next day, after all he was to get to her office to finish up the inspection.
