Chapter 140

Chase finally got to leave Harts family to his house for a two days leave. Although there wasn't any relationship existing between Alicia and him, except for work, the scene that they created could make people suspicious of something intimate between them. Alicia was so moody as if it was a separation caused by death, while Chase braved his feelings up in a manly manner. It wasn't as if he never felt emotionally down, after all they had been together for some time now and had got used to each other. As soon as he was set to leave, Alicia followed him to the car, he was to drive home with the Hyundai Genesis so that Alicia who was to continue with the official jobs, would make use of the officially designated car. Once Chase got to the car, he threw his little bag with his few clothes in it, into the car. He turned around to see Alicia's already spread hands inviting him for a hug. It was a passionate one, though it was short.

Alicia watched Chase drive out from the compound and she continued until she lost sight of the cars tail board. It was then she turned back and headed towards the little space of an office to continue her duty.

Chase felt so happy that he was going to unwind for these two days. It was something he has missed for so long. The job during the election period was too demanding and tedious. He had earlier received a call from Brenda to confirm that he was going to make it home, he promised her he won't miss it, but refused to tell her the actual time he would be leaving. While in the car, he imagined how surprised she would be seeing him suddenly without notice. He knew she must have tried his number severally. It was for the surprise that he decided to switch off his phones, moreover, he wouldn't also want to be reached for any emergency or special security duty.

Brenda made sure the house was well kept, she was so much in a happy mood that Chase was coming back. She prepared his favourite meal and bought some bottles of wine having known his best. When she was through with all she was doing, she sat down in the sittings room and began to try his line. Several trials proved unsuccessful, all she got from the telecom voice prompt was that the number wasn't reachable. She couldn't understand why it was so, she recalled that they had spoken in the morning and he had assured her that he would make it home. She wondered what may have happened or was it possible something came up that changed the plan, she thought.

She had known the kind of person Chase was, she knew that when he gave his word, he fulfils it. A lot of ideas came to her mind, she felt that this might be an exception to his attitude. She didn't want to believe or accept the thought that he might have purposely switched off his phone so she wouldn't feel bad hearing that he couldn't make it, she would prefer he told her. It was for him that she took his off from duty for two days, and it wouldn't be a nice experience spending it alone feeling lonely. While she was engrossed in so many thoughts, she intermittently went to the window to look out, especially when a vehicle engine sounded so close to get house.

Chase was getting close to the city after about 2 hours drive, when it occurred to him, that doesn't have anything for Brenda. He had to search for a good mall where he would buy some few things for her. The drive home would have been in about 45minutes, but stopping a the mall took those minutes. He packed the car and ran into the mall, trying to cover up the delayed time. After a few minutes, he was able to get some things which he felt Brenda would appreciate. When he returned to the car, dropped what he bought, he had to switch on his private line. He had giving it some kind of thoughts while in the mall and sensed that his line no being reachable might have been causing Brenda emotional trauma.

By the time Chase switched on his phone, Brenda had given up trying. She undressed and changed into her regular casual home clothing. She was formally putting on something she bought specially to welcome Chase, she had wanted him to see her looking her best. The colour she chose was same colour of flowers and decorations she did. The candles were readily and beautifully lined up from the door to the centre of the sitting room, where a beautiful cake was placed and wine sorrounded it. There were several cards with strong emotional words of love and affection written on them gang everywhere in the room. She made a colourful design of colorful designed welcome mat that she spread like they do during red carpet in a fashion show.

All these where done in high spirit, but when it seemed that everything wasn't going as planned, she gave up. She lay down on the three seater, with her phone dropped far away from her to avoid the temptation of trying his number again, when she heard a sound of car engine and the light flashed on the window. She hurriedly stood up to check. She almost felt disappointed when she saw that it wasn't Chase's car, but a car that was using the space in front of the house to take a turn. She had wanted to turn around and head back to the room, when her instinct made her look out on he road. There stood the car she knew very well, it was at a spot, waiting for the other car to turn so it would come in.

Brenda rushed into the room, hurriedly Changed into the beautiful mini gown, she rushed out and had the candles lit, then she switched off the lights. When she was done, having succeeded getting everything set before Chase got to park the car, she unlocked the front door and stood beside it holding the switch for he lighting.

When Chase got down from the car, he got confused. There were light on all the houses on the street and the street poles except their house. He could only think that something might have gone wrong with theirs. He had a little experience in electrical works, so he felt it was not an issue, all he needed do was to get inside change and trace whatever the problem to get it fixed. He could only feel for Brenda who he felt was in darkness all alone. He moved out all that he got in the car and locked the car. He then proceeded towards the door.

When Chase got to the door, he didn't expect it to give in the way it did, this put him on alert, and delayed him from entering immediately. He had to drop what he had in his hands, brought out his Jack knife, and held it tight awaiting any approach so he would strike. He moved his hands to where the switch was located, so he could try turn it on, immediately, the light came on. He was about to react swiftly with his security experience, when he saw the beautifully decorated flowers and welcome mat.

Brenda waited until he had placed back the knife in it's holster before she jumped on him, shouting aloud with excitement. She couldn't hold on for him to see her looks as planned. It took quite sometime for her to free Chase from the hug and allow him to move in the things he had with him. As soon as the door got shut, she rushed into his arms once again, this time their mouth found each other's, and a long kiss ensued. Chase had caught her mid air, and she was suspended on his body with her legs crossed around his wait for balance while the kiss continued. Chase had to after few minutes move to the seat, say down allowing her sit on his laps. He asked that she allowed him she her beautiful candle lights and the cards she used in decorations. That was when Brenda got to remember, it was that right thing to do, so she stood up from his lap and took him back to the door, giving him room to walk through the aisles she made with the candle and mat. Brains took his time, waking through the space, he made Brenda laugh as he tried to imitate the way those ladies walk while having the fashion parades. Moreso, it was an opportunity to reconnect easier as the mood it created made it seem they had been together all the while.

It wasn't up to 20 minutes Chase entered, that his phone rang. He didnt pick it until he was through with the reception. When he checked his phone, there was a message awaiting him from Olivia.
