Where is the other?

Chapter one hundred and fifty-one

Back in Brookswill and Sons Company

Anna thought of visiting her mother at the hospital after work. It had been a while since she stopped by the hospital. She couldn't help but miss her mother. If she hadn't been hospitalised, she sure would have filled her mother in on the recent happenings in her life. She made a little sad face and continued with her daily task. It was then that she finally noticed Jaden's absence. She checked his desk and emptiness stared back at her. He was absent from work. The last time they spoke was back at the hospital when a little fight ensued between Davis and him. Anna hoped that he was alright. It was quite strange for Jaden to miss a day of work. Or does this have anything to do with Kathryn? He'd once mentioned to her that the past was in the past and that he'd gotten over what happened back then, but somehow, it didn't seem like that to her.

Or was it her? What if he wasn't around because of her. She tried to replay the hospital scene with him in her head to find out if she said any hurtful thing to him. She tried reaching him by calling his number but she couldn't get through to him. Did he inform Mr Williams that he wouldn't be coming? She thought of this and sighed. The day seemed unusually long, and Anna was sure that it was because of Jaden's absence. She had no idea that she'd grown so accustomed to him. She couldn't wait for him to arrive back at the company.

As much as Anna could, she avoided going into Mr Williams' office, as thoughts of the kisses that they shared still lingered in her head. She realised that he didn't mention anything about it today. Neither did he talk about what happened back in the bathroom and its aftermath. Just thoughts of them alone were enough to make her blush very hard. If only Jaden was here, he'd have asked her why she was blushing. Anna was a little hurt that Xander did not refer to any of the things that happened the previous day. Maybe there was nothing special about it to him. Maybe he kissed her because he just wanted to. He was Alexander Williams after all, he could do anything at all that he wanted to.

The mere thought of it alone broke her heart. Here she was constantly thinking about the kisses and feeling her lips, while Xander wasn't the least bothered about it. She was too shy to bring the matter up, and the thought of it alone made her blush harder. She didn't know just how many times she would blush within a day. Anna made sure that she sent Mr Williams his schedule for the day and other necessary things he would be needing. She continued working to take her mind off what she was thinking.

When it was time for Mr Williams' lunch, she texted him instead of going to his office. She usually went to his office to inquire about what he would be having, but this time, she didn't. Xander found it unusually strange but he replied with a text.

"Balsamic drizzled grilled chicken, veggies and ricotta Salata alongside Bruschette Siciliani. Don't keep me waiting."

This was the typical Alexander Williams, supercilious. She found her way out of the company to get his food for him and came back hurrying to his office. She wished that she could avoid going to his office to give him lunch but she had no choice. She made it in time to catch an elevator which was about to close. As the elevator dinged, her heart skipped a bit, because she was getting closer to his office. When she reached the front of his office, she headed a deep sigh before entering. She unpacked his lunch, careful not to make eye contact with him. When she was done, she proceeded to leave but immediately stopped in her tracks when she heard his voice.

"And where is the other order?" Xander asked and Anna slowly turned to him, unsure of what he meant. Another order? What other order? Was this man kidding her?

"What order?" She asked, meeting his gaze for the first time since she entered his office.

"Are you playing with me right now, Miss Houston?" He asked, and Anna furrowed her brows in response. Xander shook his head and retrieved his phone from the table. He opened his text and held his phone out, showing her the text.

Anna instantly checked her phone to confirm what she saw on his and she immediately closed her eyes in defeat when she spotted the message on her phone. She'd missed the message that came after the first one, which he sent separately, it read;

"It's two of the same order by the way."
