Chapter one hundred and fifty-eight
Anna spent most of the night thinking about what Vanessa said. She couldn't take Vanessa's words off her mind, no matter how hard she tried to. Mr Williams was in love with her? How was that even possible? He made it crystal clear that he would never fall in love with her, or anyone else. Even though her heart wanted Vanessa's words to be true, her head kept giving her a thousand and one reasons why it was impossible.
She remembered what happened earlier at his house, how he'd yelled at her to get out of his house and her heart sank again. Her head kept screaming for her to wake up from her dream, telling her that he wouldn't have bawled at her like that if he loved her. Her heart felt heavy, she felt as though heavy metal was thrown into her delicate heart.
The first thing Anna did when she woke up was to check her phone, in case she missed a call or text from Xander. When she saw that there was no text or call from him, she was crestfallen. She decided to stay in bed longer than usual. She kept on thinking about what could have happened to him. She wondered if he touched the food at all. She'd be hurt if she finds out that he didn't, especially because she put a lot of work into cooking the dish. He'd been completely fine when he was in the kitchen, what could have happened to him? She wondered if it was about her.
Anna heard a knock on her door and she immediately knew that it was Vanessa. It was Vanessa's turn to wake her today.
"Wakie wakie, Anna." Vanessa opened the door which made a creaking sound. She strolled into her bedroom and saw Anna sprawled on her bed.
"Anna, Anna, Anna," Vanessa called in a hushed tone and Anna turned, pretending to be asleep.
"Anna, wake up now. We have tons of things to do. Greg is coming today too, remember?" Anna stretched her body and watched Vanessa with half-open eyes.
"Are you awake? We have a long day today. We'll have to get a few things at the grocery store also."
"Do we?" Anna's voice was groggy.
"Of course, Anna, and we have to do that as soon as possible because Greg might end up coming sooner than expected. He might just show up for lunch instead, one can never tell." That did the trick because Anna found herself jumping from the bed.
"Seriously? He's that impatient?" Anna's voice was smooth this time, and when she spoke, Vanessa knew that she'd been pretending to be asleep all along.
"I just knew that you weren't sleeping, Anna." Vanessa shook her head at Anna, who just discovered that she'd been caught.
"So, that was a lie you cooked up because you wanted me to rise from the bed? I must admit that you got me right there, sneaky cat."
Vanessa replied with a wink and a mischievous smile that made Anna squint at her.
Anna and Vanessa spent the day washing, cleaning, arranging and doing other chores. It wasn't until past noon that they were finally done with their chores. They prepared to go out to get groceries and were back at the house after a couple of hours. They spent the rest of the evening cooking. It wasn't until they were done that they had the time to relax. They both slumped on the sofa and looked at each other before exclaiming, "Geez, I'm tired," in unison.
"It wouldn't be a bad idea to hit the spa, you know? It helps in unwinding," Vanessa said and Anna nodded in response.
"I'd have suggested that we go to a spa now, but not when I'm expecting Greg," Vanessa said, and a smile appeared on her face.
"We both need to freshen up, Anna. I can't imagine Greg meeting any of us like this. We're a mess. I can smell sweat all around my body." Vanessa said, sniffing her body.
"I'll just go prepare the bathtub for you. I think you need it more than I do. I can make do with the shower." Anna said, rising from the sofa.
"Thank you!" Vanessa called out, as Anna dashed out of the living room.
