Alexander Williams is in love with you

Chapter one hundred and fifty-seven

When Anna got back, her heart was still in her throat. The first thing she did was gulp down water down her parched throat. She was glad that Vanessa was not around. The last thing she wanted was for her friend to see her crying. She wondered if there was something she did wrong. She heard giggles from outside and knew immediately that it was Vanessa. She wiped her eyes clean to prevent Vanessa from noticing anything. 

"We just left each other now, how could you be missing me already?" When Vanessa noticed that Anna was around she looked surprised. 

"I'll talk to you later, Greg. I love you too." Vanessa said, smacking her lips in the air.

"You're back pretty early today, Anna. Is there any problem?" Vanessa asked, worry evident in her voice. 

"Of course, not. I just- got back pretty early today." 

"Oh my God! You're here. I just left Greg now. I told him that you wouldn't be around. He's been dying to see you."

"I think it's two-sided. I'd like to see the Greg that my Nessa wouldn't stop talking about." Anna was starting to get into the conversation, especially because of what she picked from Vanessa's conversation with Greg.

"By the way, what is it that you're dying to tell me, Nes? I can smell it." Anna said, sniffing into the air. "So, spill it already, bestie. I'm all ears."

Vanessa stretched out the back of her hand and showed Anna her middle finger, which was laced with a beautiful twinkling saffron ring. Anna's mouth formed a jaw-dropping "o" at its sight. 

"Is that a couple ring?!" Anna could almost not believe her eyes.

"Yes, Anna! Greg and I are a couple, now!" She held Anna's hands and jumped giddily, stomping her feet on the floor and grinning from ear to ear.

"Oh my God, Nes!" Anna shook her head in disbelief and shock.

"That was my exact reaction when he asked me to be his girlfriend too." 

"How romantic, Nes! I didn't think that he was the kind that would go as far as getting a couple ring." 

"Neither did I," Vanessa turned her middle finger, admiring the ring. 

"By the way, I invited him over for dinner tomorrow. You'll finally get to see him, Anna." Anna could hear the happiness in Vanessa's voice.

"But, don't you think that it's too early to be in a relationship with Greg?" Anna questioned after a long silence. She was a little worried that Vanessa just met Greg, but she immediately pressed her fingers to her lips because the same could be said about her and Xander, except that she was the only party to it, and they aren't dating.

"Says Anna Houston, who is head over heels for an Alexander Williams, a man she's barely known for a month or less." 

Anna clicked her tongue, not knowing what else to say.

"Relax, alright? I know that you're only trying to look out for me, but trust me on this, Anna. Besides, he passed my test of scrutiny." Vanessa winked at her.

"You scrutinized him?" Anna asked, astounded at her words.

"Well, I can't go through the same hell again. It was a necessary evil." Vanessa added, referring to her scrutiny. 

"You trust my judgment, don't you?"

"Of course, I do," Anna said reassuringly. "But I'll really like to see what he's like. Like him, I also can't wait to meet him, especially because I want to know how he was able to penetrate you." 

"Well, love happened. That's all that I can say." A gleeful smile appeared on Vanessa's face again, and Anna could swear that it had been ages since she saw Vanessa like this.

"I'm happy for you, Vanessa. I really am. Well, at least you're both in love with each other. I envy you, you know?" Her lips curved slightly in a sad smile.

"Oh no, you shouldn't, Anna. I'm sure that Mr Williams is in love with you, he just hasn't realized it yet." Anna found herself laughing at Vanessa's words. 

"Who? Mr Williams? In love? With me?" Anna couldn't even comprehend it because she knew how impossible it was. "You don't have to say all these to make me feel better, Vanessa."

"No, Anna. It's not about that at all, believe me. I can feel it in my guts that he loves you. He probably doesn't know because he hasn't experienced this before. You're his first, remember? I don't think he would treat you specially if he doesn't. I mean how do you explain the fact that he always wants you around him? Don't you see how he bends his rules for you? You're just too blind to see it, Anna. Mr Alexander Williams is in love with you."
