Worried sick and nervous

Chapter one hundred and sixty-eight

All Xander's attempts to find Anna were futile. He tried calling Kathryn when he arrived home, but her number didn't go through. He had to leave a message for her to call him when she gets his message. He was so distraught. He'd never been this worried before. He wasn't only worried, he was also angry- angry because he couldn't do anything about it. He wouldn't just let Greg off the hook like that. His words were believable, but somehow, he didn't fully trust him. How could Anna go missing just after she met with him? Or could he be working for his brother? He couldn't see any reason why he would want to kidnap Anna, well, except this had something to do with his brother.

What if it was a competitor? But why would the person take Anna? Could it be that the person was one of the invitees for the company's anniversary? Could it be that the person chose Anna because of how he'd been possessive with her that day? Xander was going crazy just thinking about all of these. He had no idea that Anna's absence could have this kind of effect on him. What was wrong with him?

She's your employee, remember? Your assistant at that. It's only normal for you to feel like this when she's missing. She's your responsibility. Xander heard his head say this and he ran his hand through his thick hair. Right! He cared about all his employees. This was coming from a place of responsibility. Nothing more, he assured himself.

Xander tried to calm his nerves by hitting the shower. He hoped that he'd be calm. He hoped that his heart would stop racing like it was. He placed both hands on the wall and watched water cascade down his perfectly sculptured body. When he was done, he went into his room and tried to take his mind off the whole situation. He however couldn't as he kept seeing images of Anna in his head. He saw her screaming for help and calling out his name and his heart started racing again. Xander was so worried about her. He feared that something very terrible had happened to her. He couldn't close his eyes because he kept seeing her face. He also couldn't open his eyes because the images of her crying for help wouldn't stop popping in his head.

He'd try to sleep and continue his search for Anna tomorrow. He really hoped that he finds her. He hoped that she was safe. Xander shut his eyes and finally drifted off to sleep.

When Xander woke up the next morning, he had a banging head. He barely slept the night before because he kept waking up at intervals. He kept hearing Anna's cries for help even in his sleep. Everything felt so real. He'd wake up at intervals with beads of sweat on his face. He'd also had a nightmare that she was hung downwards with her hands and legs tied. He'd woken up the moment he saw her face.

Xander checked his phone to see if there was any text at all from Anna or a stranger but he found none. He knew that she had been kidnapped but he wondered what the kidnapper wanted. If it was him that was the target, the kidnapper would call sooner or later. He couldn't wait to know who the bastard was. His heart sank at the thought that Anna could have been used as bait to catch him. Those bastards would pay for what they had done to her. He'd rip their hearts apart.

He initially thought of not going to the office but he discarded the thought the moment he realised that the kidnapper could try to reach him via the company's line. He hit the shower and in no time, he was fully clad. He got out of his house and immediately found his way to the company.

When he arrived at Brookswill and Sons, the first place he went to was the reception. The young beautiful woman immediately rose from her seat and bowed in reverence at his sight, folding her hands together and hiding them behind her.

"M- Mr Williams, good morning," she didn't look up once as she greeted him, her head was still bowed to the ground.

"Has there been any call for me today?" Xander asked impatiently, not minding that she was shaking nervously at the sight of him.

"N- None at all, sir."

"Make sure you let me know immediately if there is one. Do you understand?" His voice was stern.

"Definitely, sir."

Xander walked briskly away from the reception and found his way into his office.
