Chapter one hundred and sixty-nine
Anna opened her eyes and darkness stared back at her. She searched everywhere for any source of illumination but found none. She wondered where she was. Fear gripped her heart and the first thing that came to her mind was- to run. She immediately tried to run but noticed that she couldn't move, as she was in a sitting position.
She tried standing and it was then that she noticed that she couldn't, her hands weren't moving. They were tied to her back with something strong, she felt it with her fingers and felt its roughness. It had to be a thick rope. She couldn't also move her legs, they were also tied. She tried freeing her hands and her body shook in the process, her back touched a hard surface. She'd been tied to a chair. She tried to no avail and even fell in the process. Where was she? Why was she tied?
"Hello? Anybody here? Who's here? Hello?" Anna screamed, and her echoes answered her. It was then that she realized that she must be in an empty room.
What was she doing here? She tried remembering the events that unfolded before now and her memory came back in a flash. Right! She'd been waiting impatiently for a bus or a cab after Jaden left when she felt a presence around her. She'd tried to look back but she failed because she suddenly felt strong hands on her nose which was covered with a soft cloth. She remembered that she'd tried to fight to no avail, not just because the person was stronger than her, but because she suddenly felt dizzy. The last thing she remembered was the voice of the person, which came out as a whisper in her ears. It was a familiar one, in fact, an unmistakable one and she heard a familiar word in his words.
Anna was petrified the moment it dawned on her, her heart raced in fear, it almost jumped out of her chest. Her palm suddenly felt wet, heat surged through her, and her insides felt hot. It didn't help matters that the room she was in was dark- very dark, she could barely see anything. It reminded her of the time she met him, at the dinner party. His voice was exactly the same as it was then, nothing changed about it.
"Don't push it, mademoiselle. Don't even try. No one can save you from me now." Even in her dazed state, her heart had thumped so loud in her chest at the recognition of his voice. What she'd feared had happened. Her stalker had gotten hold of her, and now she was going to be at his mercy.
Did Mr Williams know that she was missing? What about Vanessa? Did she know? And Greg? She wished that she'd just followed Greg. None of this would have happened if she did. She had herself to blame for what happened to her. Whoever this stalker was, he was cunning, very cunning, in fact. He waited for the time that she'd have completely forgotten about him, before showing himself to her. He knew that if he'd tried coming for her a few days after the company's dinner, he'd not have successfully kidnapped her.
What did this stalker want from her? She just hoped that he wasn't some psychopath, organ harvester or serial killer. For all she knew, she could be in a room filled with skulls and cobwebs- maybe a haunted house. She knew about all of these. She saw them in horror movies and books. She just hoped that she was wrong. It was at this point that she needed a miracle the most.

Xander could not concentrate at work. He'd attended the meeting with the board of directors and he'd been completely absent-minded during the meeting. He'd left during the meeting, leaving everyone in wonder, because they'd never seen him act that way before, especially since the meeting was a crucial one to the progress of BrooksWill and Sons. Xander went back to his office and checked his office phone. There was still no call from anyone.
He called one of his men and ordered that the nooks and crannies of the whole city be checked. He didn't mind using his resources to find Anna. He had to find her. He couldn't stop thinking about her. He had no idea that she meant so much to him. How could he not have known? Right now, she was all that was on his mind. If he hadn't suspected his brother, he wouldn't be thinking about him at all. He wished that he hadn't let her go alone. There's no point regretting now, what was done was done.
Xander's phone buzzed just then and his heart quickened in anticipation.
