Chapter two hundred and forty-seven
When Kathryn arrived back home with Fiona, they made their way to the kitchen.
"I'll just handle this, Kathryn. You don't have to do anything."
"I don't think I can do that, Fiona. I feel like something would go wrong if I don't join you. It has to be the tension building up in my body." Just then Kathryn phone rang and she saw that it was Tracy. Her heart skipped a bit. She wondered if they were almost at her house.
"Kathryn! How are you doing? Davis is here with me. Mum and Dad are here too, we are on the way to your house. I must say that I see what you're doing to our Davis. He looks so different now. I can see the Kathryn effect all around him. I can't wait to see you, Kathryn. I would hug you so tightly when I see you. Alright, bye Kathryn. See you soon."
Kathryn's heart was palpitating in her chest. She smiled occasionally when she was on the call with Tracy. She tried to hide her nervousness and she was sure that Tracy could not tell that she was nervous.
"Fiona, they are on the way! What do I do?" Kathryn asked pacing about her kitchen.
"Nothing, Kathryn. Just be yourself. Breathe in and breathe out," Fiona advised and Kathryn did just as she was told. She would take any advise right now to feel better.
"Repeat the process and while you are at it, cross your arms over your chest and tap on your chest continually with your hands."
Kathryn did as she was told and she felt herself loosen up a little.
Her phone beeped again and she almost jumped. It was Davis this time.
"Kat, darling. How are you doing? I've missed you, baby," he declared.
"Hello, Davis," her voice was a little constricted.
"Are you alright, Kat?" Davis asked knowing that she answered weirdly.
"Yeah, I'm alright. I've been expecting everyone," she said, trying to act like she wasn't so nervous.
Kathryn lied because she knew that they were probably in the same car. She knew that they would hear his response and and didn't want to appear as a weakling in front of them. If Davis had been alone, she would have let him know that she was afraid, scared to the bones and nervous.
After she ended the call, she tried to calm her nerves down and it worked.
"I don't want them to see me in this. I would just freshen up, change and come back to the kitchen," she said and Fiona nodded at her.
It didn't take so long for Kathryn to have her bath and change her clothes. It was a hard task at first for her to pick clothes for this kind of occasion. She wore a loose cyan gown and joined Fiona in the kitchen.
No sooner had she gone to the kitchen than she heard the doorbell ring. She knew that it was Davis and his family. One of her maids was scurrying toward the place but before she could go very far, Kathryn called her back. She wanted to open the door for them all by herself.
Her heart raced as she got a step closer to the door. The moment she opened the door, the first person that she was was Tracy.
"Kathryn!!! Oh my God! It's really you, Kat. I've missed you so much," she said, hugging the life out of her and Kathryn welcomed the embrace. He hugged her tightly too and kisses her on the head.
"By the way, you look even more beautiful than you were the last time we saw," Tracy whispered in her ears and they both giggled.
After Tracy finally let go, she saw Davis whom she hugged very tightly also. He greeted her with a kiss. He kissed her as though he hadn't seen her in days. Kathryn immediately pulled out remembering that his parents would be around and she immediately became sweaty. Beads of sweat appeared on her face, her palms were sweaty too.
"What about your parents?" Kathryn asked in surprise.
"They will join us shortly," he said gliding into the living room. Before they even sat, the door bell dinged and Kathryn's eyes flew open.
"I didn't tell you, Davis, but I've been nervous since the start of the day. I keep thinking of everything your parents would say when they eventually see me," she said truthfully, holding him down. It appeared that he wanted to go open the door. Tracy opened the door instead.
Kathryn rose from her seat as she anticipated the first words that would escape their lips. As soon as they came in, they greeted her with a smile and that seemed to ease a little of the tension building up in her.
"Hello, Kathryn! It's so good to finally see you in real life," Davis' mother said, pulling her for a hug which she took. She hugged Davis' mother very tightly too.
"Oh my, you have such a beautiful house." It was Davis' father's turn to speak. They walked further into her house and she offered them seats.
"What would you like me to offer you?" She asked politely and they both told her that water was fine for now.
Kathryn didn't probe further, she returned to the living room with glasses of water which they took.
