"I want more than forehead kisses and I want to be your man. So, if he thinks any of these, he's absolutely correct." Simon replied with a chuckle. "How was your night my Sunflower?"
"Y.o.u.r Sunflower." Paige repeated emphatically.
"You heard that right." Simon responded.
"Let's stick with Sunflower only Simon. That's the one I can bear to be called. Anyway, I'm fine, thank you." Paige murmured inaudibly. "Why did you stop Samira and co from waking me up this morning? And is everything okay, I was told you left home very early." She asked.
Simon sighed unbuttoning one of his shirt buttons while Paige's stare followed the movement of his hands. The maid arrived with Simon's food at this time interrupting the moment. She quickly left them after serving Simon's food. "Everything is fine." Simon started. "I had to quickly check on some properties, but I'm back now. Did you miss me?" He asked smiling.
"Oh please Simon. Just stop going around planting forehead kisses on people. It's not nice." She told him rolling her eyes.
"Do you think I care?" He asked shoving the first spoon of food into his mouth. "If given the opportunity, I'll plant kisses on your forehead every minute."
"Well, I care Mr. Simon." She snarled.
"Oh, that's great." He said mimicking her previous voice. Paige hit him playfully.
"Stop it." She said with a warm smile.
"What are we doing for fun today?" Simon asked eating his food.
Paige looked up from her plate, last night, she had plan on waking up early so as tell him about her plans for the day and weekend as well. But right now, looking at him she doubted he would take the news well. "I'm going for a beauty prep today. She informed him."
"Beauty prep, that sounds nice. I can take you. We can actually stop by Nolla and get a nice dress you'd wear tomorrow. Or if you don't have the strength, we can invite them home with few of their best dresses and you make a choice. Your beauty prep too can be done at home if you wish." He added.
"Today is Saturday Simon. Are they open on Saturdays?"
"It depend on who's asking." He replied with a smile.
"Oh, I get it. Money rule the world indeed." She said with a grim face causing Simon to laugh uncontrollably.
"So, what do you say?" He finally asked when the laughter subsided.
"I already have a dress for tomorrow's event and I prefer going out for the beauty prep. Get some fresh air, meet new people, socialize and all that."
Simon nodded calmy. "Okay, if that's what you want. I don't want to argue. I'm actually too hungry to try." Simon told her." So, where are you going? I'll take you." He volunteered.
"Errh, not to worry. Frankie is sending a car. It should be here anytime soon." She replied just as Simon attempted swallowing a beef which unfortunately got stuck in his throat. He hurriedly drank some water which enabled him force it down. "Are you okay?" Paige asked looking worried.
"Yes, I'm fine. I'll still be the one to take you to the event tomorrow right?" Simon asked.
"Yes, yes you are." She replied. "But I'd like to I'd like to tell you something Simon." She started.
"What is it?" He asked finally okay with his throat.
"I might spend the night at the Tedson's home. Mr and Mrs Tedson would love me to stay over after the party as we have some pressing issues we'd love to discuss afterwards. Can you come home alone?" She asked in a pleading voice.
Simon couldn't hide the anger that was surging through him. "What do you wish to discuss with Noah and his wife? They want to ask you to marry their son?" He asked so pissed.
"Don't speak to me in such manner Simon. I'm not a kid." She stressed.
"You're not going." He said with finality.
"I'm actually not asking Simon, I'm telling you." She clarified.
"You're what? Really, you're seriously going to sit there telling me such nonsense and expect me to be cool about. You are not going to the event tomorrow Sunflower." He said again.
"Why not." Paige asked in a raised voice. I'm on break which will end once Emily gets back and she's not coming back until Tuesday. So, what's the fuss about? I'm allowed to do whatever I wish to do with my time during this period Simon." She reminded him. Simon's face squeezed with anger. He seem to be burning from the inside as he turned all red.
"I'm creating a fuss." He mumurred taking out one of the sentences from Paige's speech. "What is it about Tedson?" He asked unable to understand why she will push him away so willingly and accept Frankie with open arms.
"You seriously have to calm down if you really want us to have a conversation." She told him calmly.
Simon shook his head in disagreement. "Sunflower, I told you how I feel about you just yesterday. Just l.a.s.t n.i.g.h.t. and what did I get for expressing myself, a rejection with an excuse that made no sense to me. Today, you sit there telling me that you want to spend the night at Tedsons. Please humor me, I'd really love to know how you expect me to react, You expect me to pretend like it's okay when its not?" He asked so mad at her.
"Simon, just listen to yourself." Paige said getting tired of his babyish anger. "I want to spend the night at the Tedsons as their guest. This shouldn't be a problem Simon. We are adults for crying out loud." Paige said. He squeezed his fork tightly before dropping it on the table.
"Fine, I'm sorry for raising my voice at you." He finally said getting a hold on himself and a knock came on the dinning hall door almost immediately. "Come in!" Simon shouted. Sherman pushed the door open and came in making sure to stand at a reasonable distance very much away from Simon for fear of being screamed at as he was hearing their muffled voices from behind the door.
"There is a car for Miss Paige." He announced. "From the Tedson's."
"Oh, that's great." Paige replied. "Let the driver know that I'll be with him shortly." Paige replied. The atmosphere in the room was cold as ice. Even as Paige spoke to Sherman, her voice sounded so tiny and minute. It felt like the silence was drowning it. At Paige's reply, poor Sherman bowed quickly and rushed off almost hitting his head on the door frame. "Did you receive the contract I sent to you through Sherman yesterday?" She asked wanting desperately to ease the tensed up mood.
"I did." He replied through his teeth as he finally resumed eating in an attempt to distract himself.
"Okay then." Paige said cleaning her mouth with the table napkin. "I guess I'll see you later in the day." She added standing up leisurely. Without being told, she knew she have indeed tested Simon a bit too much and was already stepping on his last raged nerve. He made no reply to her words. Carefully she picked up her cellphone from the table, moved away from her chair and stepped out of the dinning hall making a stop at her room first for a change of clothes before leaving the Kentley's mansion.
Once she left the dinning hall, Simon full of rage, pushed over the plates on the dinning table causing them to smash into tiny pieces on the tiled floor. He was mad at everyone especially himself. He felt so useless, like he was not just enough for anyone. Picking up his cellphone, he placed a quick call to Bruce. Once his chauffeur picked up, he rolled out his order angrily. "Bruce," he called. "Ensure that Paige is safe." He barked into the phone before hanging up.
Immediately, the line went dead, Bruce moved over to the garage at the back of the house and drove out with one of the cars parked there following Paige behind. He knew Paige won't recognize any of the cars parked at that garage. Besides, she's never been there before. He didn't need extra instructions from anybody to know what to do. He understood the instruction he was given so he carried it out to the later. Amongst all Simon's employees, Bruce and Charles have worked for him the longest. Bruce have been with him for as long as his days in England. Having worked for him that long made him so attached to Simon. He've known his struggles, pains, challenges and presently, he didn't need a soothsayer to tell him that his strong and insatiable boss was madly in love with some random lady.
Who would have believed that Simon would ever fall in love this way especially with someone of a lower class. Someone not even on same level with him in the society Bruce thought as he tailed the blue Ford that Paige was in. "Love is so stupid!" He exclaimed to no one in particular.
