A letter

Akilah

Akilah ran through the white and blue corridors like a tornado of confusion, panic and books. When she finally reached her locker, Akilah tore her bag open and shoved her books in. She checked them in her mind: chemistry textbook, exercise book, note pad, homework and scrap paper. Akilah rammed her bag shut and darted for the science lab. Of course she was late. Akilah ran into the class that had already started.

"Ah Miss Dunes!" The middle aged teacher exclaimed lowering her glasses. "Decided to join us?" She asked sarcastically. 'Unlike your sixth husband.' Akilah thought.

"Sorry I'm late." She mumbled before talking her seat at the back. She was taking out her navy band of books when she heard something.

"Sit at the back." Came the same shrill, ear-scratching voice, that had previously greeted her at the door. As she pulled herself up she saw a familiar grin.

"Jack?" She whispered looking in shock. Of all people to be in chemistry, the boy with a six-pack and bulging muscles was not on her list. He lifted his head and pushed back his hair.

"Miss me already?" He asked looking from his notes to Akilah. She blushed and started scribbling notes down.

Jack

Jack looked at her outfit. 'A crop top? On a girl like her? Wow! She looked-' Jack caught himself before he went too far. There was no way he would fall in love with target. He turned his attention to the teacher; who was droning on about the periodic table. Once he got bored of that (he already knew the syllabus) he turned his attention back to Akilah's outfit. She was wearing a plain pink crop top, ripped black jeans and a black jacket. "You are so getting dress coded." Jack said into Akilah's ear.

"No, I'm so not." Akilah whispered back. Jack swore he felt his heart skip a beat. Then he felt her leaning in again. "I'm the best student here. I win this dump everything. They can barely afford to keep me." And with that she flicked her ponytail and flashed a smile with teeth as white as diamonds. Jack envied Akilah's confidence, but found it hilarious.

"I never expected a sentence so sassy to come out of a mouth so innocent." Jack chuckled quietly. Akilah grinned. She was leaning in again when...

"Akilah! Can you tell me what chemical element is found in period four group four?" The teacher loudly said pointing at the poor girl accusingly. Jack was about to help when Akilah (without missing a beat) exclaimed:

"Titanium!" Akilah glanced at Jack and raised her eyebrows.

"Correct!" The teacher said angry that Akilah knew. Jack was surprised. Who knew the periodic table by heart?  The rest of the lesson was a blur of looking at the board and admiring Akilah. He convinced himself that it was to find a way to break her heart.

Akilah

Akilah swore that she just saw Jack looking at her and smiling. She blushed so much, which made her embarrassed so she blushed even more. No one had ever been as kind to her as Jack had. (Apart from Matthew). Akilah couldn't take her mind off Matthew's words. It got her wondering, what was her type? Soon the lesson ended and Akilah walked off to her locker. Jack ran on ahead to get to classical studies. When she reached her locker she saw a note on the front. It was pink and lilac sealed with a wax stamp. The stamp in itself was beautiful. It had a dried daisy in the centre of its gold base. Akilah put her bag away and opened it. It read:

Dear Akilah

I noticed you are more than a pretty face. You are smart, funny and confident. I have always noticed a light glow about you whenever you enter the room. If you want to meet me, you can find me at the soccer field for lunch. If not I understand.

How peculiar Akilah thought. She put the note in her pocket, what was she to do? This could be a total stranger! She would make up her mind later, for now she had biology.
