Learning about the Dangers of this World

[How long is this fucking river?] He complained in his head.

He had been walking for what seemed to be over an hour. His legs have grown tired. The only thing that was keeping him sane thus far was his drive for adventure. Enzo was always a lover of all kinds of adventures. He often snuck out at night when he was a young child to run off to the woods near his house, often returning all dirty and musty. Those were good times, times that he cannot get back, unfortunately.

"Enough moping, it isn't going to get me anywhere, I should just take a small break here and enjoy some more of these... cherry-looking things," Enzo said.

He picked a spot near a tall tree and sat down, his back toward the tree. He looked up towards the towering trees, the sun illuminating his path. The only sounds that he could hear were the sound of the birds chirping and the creek flowing. It was a peaceful atmosphere, but a boring one. He had a passion for adventure, he wished for something exciting to happen like he gets a super overpowered system, or he learns magic.

[Eh... That's just wishful thinking, there is no possible way that magic exists.]

He got up after a quick break. He extended his muscles and cracked his neck back and forth. It was the well-deserved that he needed to get going. After stretching his muscles, Enzo began the trek down the river again. Every time Enzo stepped, the sounds of the grass under his feet provided the much-needed audio cues that told him that he was progressing at a steady pace. The sun was parading down on Enzo's frail body, the weather feeling like it was in the middle of summer. It was not overly hot, but hot enough that one would need a refill of water every once in a while.

[Fuck man, I wish there was something interesting that can hap-] His thoughts were cut off by the sound of bushes rustling nearby.

It was not a windy day, not windy enough for the bushes to be rustling as much as they were. Enzo stood his ground, his body lowered and torso facing to the side, preparing to run if it was a danger to his life. His wishes were answered, albeit, not the answer he wished for. Out from the bushes emerged a large gray wolf. The wolf had a horn protruding from its forehead and large ears that stood alert at the presence of the small child in front of it. There were two blue stripes that encircled its head and body, resembling an hourglass shape.

[Oh. Fuck.]

Enzo held his breath, he did not want to make any unnecessary movements that could make the large creature perceive him as a threat. It did not look like a wolf from Earth, but there was little time to worry about that, as Enzo was worrying about his survival more than what the creature looked like.

"H-Hey bi-bi-big guy. I'm not here to h-hurt you," Enzo stammered. "I just wish to p-pass through here."

Enzo proceeded to gesture his thumb towards himself, and then pointed with his index downstream, trying to indicate that he was trying to make it downstream. The wolf glared at the young boy in front of it. Saliva was dripping from the wolf's mouth. It was clear that he could not understand the boy, and there was only one thing on his mind; this young boy was going to be its next meal.

[You got to be fucking kidding me. Me and my big mouth.] Enzo knew what was going to happen, so he wasted no time and bolted in the opposite direction of the wolf, going further into the woods.

The wolf saw that the young boy was running, and proceeded to chase after its next tasty snack. The wolf was significantly faster than the boy, but the tight spaces of the forest and the foliage could not allow for the wolf to go as fast as it could have, going at a speed that was a bit slower than the boy. However, it had one thing on the boy, and that was stamina. Enzo only had fruit to eat and he was not feeling the greatest as he missed a lot of needed nutrients his frail body lacked.

"Leave me alone!" Enzo tried yelling at the wolf.

He grabbed a rock from the ground and threw it at the wolf, but there was only one effect; it only served to piss the wolf off even further, thinking that this little creature would dare try and hurt it. Enzo ran. He ran as fast as his little legs could take him, but he was getting tired fast. He was not going to last in this stamina battle, so he did the only thing that he could think of. He zig-zagged through the woods, going in random directions hoping the wolf would be thrown off his tail. It did not work. The wolf was slowly gaining onto the young boy, as Enzo's pace was slowing down.

[Fuck, fuck, fuck... What can I do?!]

The wolf growled from behind Enzo, its saliva was dripping from the mouth of the wolf and making little puddles of spit-water on the ground. It was slowly gaining on its prey, it thought. It could finally have a meal after not eating for several days. It was the wolf's lucky day, it thought, and it was Enzo's unlucky day. He had only reincarnated into this world for about an hour, and he was soon about to die.

Enzo looked around for possible solutions, but the only things he could see were trees, bushes, and grass, nothing that could help him in the slightest. He knew that he could not hide from the wolf, because it had already smelled him and could deduce where he was in a matter of seconds.

[Oh well, I guess this is where I die here. I hope I have a chance at another, more normal life in the future]

The wolf was directly behind Enzo, it proceeded to open its mouth, intending to swallow the little treat whole. However, the prey was not there. Its mouth clipped air, and it bit down on nothing. It could taste a little bit of blood on its front teeth, but there was no treat in the wolf's mouth. The wolf looked downward, trying to see where the little thing could've gone off to and it noticed a small hole in the ground. A hole that he could not fit in, it was the size of one of its claws.

Ah shit. The wolf thought. Its prey got away. The wolf whined for a bit before turning around and making its way back to the creek, intending to drink some water to recover from the chase that the young pup was giving him, giving up on chasing after Enzo.

Enzo felt the hot breath of the wolf down his back, and he resigned himself to his fate. He closed his eyes, however, he did not die. Instead, he felt like he was falling, and falling at a fast rate. Enzo re-opened his eyes and saw that the light was disappearing fast above him. He had fallen into a hole, but he did not know where this hole led. He could survive, or he could become a ground pancake.

[Well, let's hope there is water down this hole.]
