POV: Unknown soldier
I woke up at the sound of the bell ringing outside.
I quickly got out of bed and stretched my arms and legs, before putting on my enchanted diamond armor.
If I was told that I would be wearing such an expensive gear a few months ago, I would've laughed at you and warned you to leave me alone.
Diamond equipment was something I only heard in legends!
A material that resides deep into the belly of the world, hidden by monsters and pools of lava.
But if you manage to get a few of those, you'll be living like a God among mortals, no one could touch you, and you'll get respect from everyone around you.
I've seen a few important people wear that equipment, and it was always a big event when it happened.
For the next month, that would be the main topic of discussion in our squad.
But here I am today, in the same position as the people I once idolized, and I couldn't feel any weaker.
It's not that I've been lied, but the fact that I've seen what was beyond the veil of reality made me realize that the world was much bigger than I could imagine.
As for how I got this armor in the first place?
Well, you could say that is a combination of luck and skill.
In the last big war against the Monster Lord, a lot of my squad members died.
In that battle, it was the first time I saw so many people with diamond armor, and I felt lucky that I had an enchanted iron armor without being a noble.
Even the walls of the maze were made of blocks that are thought to be next to indestructible, with rumors that said it took days to break only one block.
And we had thousands of them!
The morale of the army was at an all-time high, making us feel like were invincible.
How wrong we were.
Now, monsters would appear that could break the obsidian walls, and everyone in the army had an enchanted diamond armor to protect themselves.
You wouldn't be invincible like the old stories, but you would survive the battle if you were lucky.
But there was still hope for humanity to win.
While we weren't great in numbers, our greatest minds managed to create a special potion that would make our bodies faster, stronger, and more resistant!
We only drank a brawn-looking potion, which made us feel sleepy, and when we woke up, we felt like we had superpowers with how good we felt.
We could run faster than any citizen, our sword strikes were more powerful, and the regeneration was unbelievable.
If there was one thing I would complain about, it is that I was getting sleepy more often, and I ate a lot more food.
But otherwise, it was all good.
With the best armor in the world, and such a strong body, what else could you want for the upcoming battle?
Well...there was something.
If you had enough emeralds you could also buy an enchanted tattoo.
It seems that you'll get a drawing on your body that can have the same effect as a magical potion with only one thought!
Humanity was truly meant to reach the pinnacle of this world!
Unfortunately, my luck ran out, and I didn't have enough funds to get a tattoo as well, but I was already stacked with potions, which should be enough for one battle.
But even with all of this preparation, I was under no illusion that I could help significantly.
I could definitely say that the army we have today is more superior than the one we had previously.
And if the 3 headed dragon was to attack once again, I think we could actually wound it, or at least distract it for the big swords to arrive.
But we're still the foot soldiers, easy to replace, and the main reason the big weapons can attack.
The heroes were already powerful before the big changes, but now that we evolved so much, I can't even imagine how powerful they are!
I hope I'll see Merry smile once more before I die.
I also hoped that she would be strong enough to defeat the huge claw that appeared from the portal.
There was also the man named Trader, who came from the same portal as the hand, and he was powerful enough to kill the 3 headed dragon with one swing of his sword!
But rumors around the base talked that he was working with the monsters since he appeared with one on the battlefield.
I didn't see too much at that moment, but I was more concerned that the man who could kill the 3 headed dragon with one swing, was running away from the claw beyond the portal.
If he was scared of the Monster beyond the portal, how were we supposed to feel?
I shook my head at those thoughts,
I didn't need to think so negatively about this, after all, we were also strong enough to fight back.
After I put the armor on, I got out of my small home and met with the others at the training ground.
We didn't chat a lot since most of us were still sleepy, so we quickly started our morning exercise, which woke us up.
While we had stronger bodies than before, that doesn't mean we could afford to slack around.
The muscles still needed to be used, otherwise, they would get rusty in battle, and nobody wanted that.
After some hard morning exercises, we were finally getting some breakfast.
This was my favorite time of the day.
We had all kinds of cooked meat, vegetable soup, golden carrots, and lots of desserts for everyone to enjoy.
This is what we ate every day for the past few months, and I didn't regret staying in the army.
At this point, I think we ate better than most of the nobles around the world!
The meal time lasted for half an hour, and it was more about talking with your colleagues than eating good food.
Of course, the food is amazing, and I wouldn't change it for anything else, but it was the same thing every day, and the gossip with the other soldiers was way better after a few months of being stuck here.
After the meal was done, each one of us was sent to our shifts.
Our jobs were pretty similar to a guards, we patrolled the obsidian maze while avoiding the traps and took care of any monsters that could accidentally wander in here.
We were mostly looking for other curious people or maybe Iligers who weren't supposed to be here.
For the past few months, I only heard about civilians trying to sneak in, and no Iligers, so I took that as a win.
After my squad finished patrolling, we went back to the center of the maze where the huge temple was reconstructed but with the purpose of a battle in mind.
The temple had iron golems constantly patrolling around the area, and would attack any lifeform that wasn't supposed to be there.
And on the towers, other golems had huge bows that shot iron arrows.
They were the perfect guard since they didn't need to eat, sleep, or take breaks.
Not only that, but they were more powerful and resistant than us.
And the only reason we were here is because you could still defeat those golems of you claimed high enough.
They were powerful but not flexible when it came to quick decisions.
We arrived in front of the temple and took out bows and crossbows, practicing our shooting skills.
Not everyone was good at both of them, and I was one of the few skilled enough to wield both of them.
Because of that, I was given an enchanted crossbow with multishot and a few fireworks to practice in my spare time.
I didn't want to brag, but I felt quite good to have such a reword while the others had normal weapons.
Suddenly, the bell rang again, which made the whole training ground stop to hear what was happening.
"Everyone, some monsters created by our scientists are going to come and join our training grounds. Please don't attack them if you see them. They are our allies, and would help us with this battle!"
Monsters would be joining our ranks?!
Why would they do such dangerous things?
It's one thing to put Iron Guards with us, but monsters that could attack you when you're asleep?
What if the monster beyond the portal could control them like the Monster Lords could?
Wouldn't that help the enemy?
I wasn't the only one who was displeased by the sudden changes, so we all gathered towards the landing place of the upcoming colleges to give them a piece of our minds!
We were fighting monsters, not with monsters!
As the generals tried to calm down the soldiers, the space began to rip itself apart, which made everyone freeze in silence.
A similar thing happened when the portal opened, and we were all thinking the same thing.
The invasion was coming sooner.
But out of this portal came some cows with white fur, which took all of us by surprise.
Then I realized something, those weren't cows, but dogs the size of a cow!
They didn't look like normal dogs either. They had huge horns on their foreheads and blue claws, and even their teeth looked extra sharp.
The others seemed to realize as well what was happening, but none of us knew how to react anymore.
A large group of dogs came one after another, and the surprises didn't stop there.
The next group of monsters were 4 blocks tall and had humans with dark armor on top!
Those monsters looked and acted like horses, but nobody would dare touch them, otherwise, they may lose their hand.
This group was smaller with only 10 mutated horses and their riders.
But even if they were lower in numbers, we didn't dare to think that they were weaker.
Then last one was a big surprise.
It was huge, easily 7 blocks or taller. But its size wasn't what made the people tense.
Instead, the looks was what caught our attention.
It looked similar to the 3 headed dragon, but this one had only one, and was blue instead of black.
On It's back stood a human with the same black armor as the others, but the aura it gave felt difrent, it belonged to someone with authority, to a hero.
"Citizens of this world! I'm Hero Merry to tell you that we have reinforcements. They may look like monsters, but they are not! They are animals that have been modified to aid us in the upcoming battles. So don't think of them as monsters, but as your commun pet, similar to a dog or a horse."
It felt like a stretch, but I guess it's better then seeing them as mosters.
Suddenly we heard something cracking like glass, and all of us turned towards the temple.
To our horror, the space was being split and monsters began to come out of the Void.
Zombies, skeletons with enchanted armor, groups of creepers, phantoms, slimes and even Endermans!
The place was flooded with monsters and everyone was taken by surprise.
Everyone, but a certain group.
The Iron golems didn't know about fear or shock, so they took out their weapons and began attacking the unwanted monsters.
Arrows were shot, punches were thrown and we finally woke up from the shock.
"Take out your wepons and defend our home!"
The hero yellow while making the dragon take flight and attack the army of monsters from the sky.
The monsters on our side didn't sit in one place either, and attacked the enemy without fear.
I took out my crossbow and began shooting fireworks, dealing a lot of damage on the battlefield.
But while I was loading my fireworks, I was only confused about the attack.
Only 7 months have passed, it took us by compleat surprise!
