"It's... good," Mathilde commented in her usual tone. She didn't say anything more, but that was just par for the course with her. Her increased appetite was all it took for me to know that she enjoyed herself.

 

"Likewise," Anna smiled in wonder as she ate. "You've always been a good cook, Rouge. This is practically normal for you."

 

I preened at the praise, "I could do better, but I'm glad you all enjoyed it."

 

I felt a blush forming on my cheeks. Nothing like a good self-absorbed question to lift my mood up with my skills. It'll at least make me sound confident with my stupid ideas.

 

Once again, a brief silence settled across the table as we dismantled the food in front of us. Not that it set the tone for the impending topic at hand. Hopefully, at least.
