February 2005...
After a long school day, Savannah and Adam got picked up by Amanda and dropped off at home.
Amanda, who was very tired, sat on the couch and sighed.
After the special week event a few years ago, Amanda gained more recognition for her baking.
A famous journalist tried one of Amanda's pastries and loved it. He even wrote an article on the newspaper about Bentley Bakery.
Due to that, the bakery became more popular and even started delivering.
Kimberly moved to a different state so couldn't work there anymore. Trisha and Amanda got promoted and started managing the bakery and more people started working there.
Savannah dropped her backpack on the couch and rushed to her room while Adam sat on the couch.
" So how was school today?" Amanda asked while removing one of her heels.
" It was fine, long and boring classes, too much homework and not enough breaks as usual". Adam said as he removed his backpack and his shoes.
Amanda smiled as she removed the other heel and went to the kitchen.
" Every school day is boring from your point of view. So what would you like for dinner". Amanda said as she washed her hands.
" Ugh, I'm not sure, you can ask Savannah ". Adam said as he rushed upstairs.
" Don't worry, I'll just make Spaghetti ". Amanda said as she went to her room.
...
Savannah went to her room and locked the door.
She sat on her bed and loosed the braid she made for school and lay on her bed.
She stayed there for a while before going to the bathroom and changing into more comfortable clothes.
She took out her phone from her bedside drawer and made her way downstairs.
Since no one was downstairs, Savannah went to the kitchen and made herself a sandwich before going to the living room.
She sat on the couch and decided to have a chat with Debbie.
" Hey, are you busy now?" Savannah texted before taking a bite out of her sandwich.
Almost immediately, Debbie replied, "No. But since the two of us are free now, why not continue our conversation at the canteen".
" What conversation?"
" you have such bad memory, the one about Nathan". Savannah didn't reply so Debbie sent another text, " So, how did it all start".
" Not long ago actually. Probably the beginning of the semester". Savannah texted before dropping her phone on the couch and going to the kitchen.
She got herself made herself a glass of water before coming back to the living room.
Before she could pick up her phone, she heard a knock on the door, curious to know who it was, she placed the glass on the table and went to have a look.
She opened the door to meet a young man of average height standing in front of her holding a small envelope and a book in his hand.
Savannah looked at him for a while before asking, " Who are you and what are you doing here?"
" I'm here to deliver a package for Amanda Hilton". The man replied.
Savannah didn't say anything for a while and thought for a bit before saying, " Hold on, I'll be right back".
She then shut the door before rushing upstairs to her mother's room.
" Mom, there's a package outside for you", Savannah said as she barged into the room. Amanda turned to look at Savannah.
" What's wrong, why did you barge into my room like that?" Amanda said as she walked up to Savannah.
" A delivery guy is here with a package for you".
" Haven't I told you to never open the door for strangers? Don't worry, let's go downstairs and meet him". Amanda said as she opened her door and the both of them walked down the stairs.
" Good Afternoon ". Amanda said as she opened the front door for the guy.
" Good Afternoon ma'm, I have a package for Amanda Hilton".
" Oh, that would be me".Amanda said as she collected the package from the man.
" Just sign here". The man said pointing at the bottom of the book. Amanda took the pen from him and signed.
The man left as Amanda shut the door on his way out.
" What do you think it is?" Savannah asked as the two of them made their way to the living room.
" I don't know, come on let's open it together". Amanda said as she started to open the envelope.
Amanda brought out a letter from the envelope and read it out loud.
" Dear Amanda Hilton, we read the article about your baking and decided to give you a try. We are in need of a baker with talent and hope to see that talent in you. From A Slice Of Heaven Cafè". Amanda read with a smile slowly formed on her face.
" What does that mean?" Savannah asked, confused.
Amanda ignored Savannah's question and shouted Adam's name." Adam! Come downstairs, I have something to show you". Amanda said as she got up from her seat, not taking her eyes of the letter.
Adam came downstairs in a rush,
" What happened?" Adam said as he sat down on the couch and gave Savannah a, ' what's going on ' look, but Savannah just shrugged.
" I've just been invited to work at A Slice Of Heaven Cafè !" Amanda squealed.
" What, really? You've always wanted to work there, that place has been your dream". Adam said as he stood up and snatched the letter from Amanda.
Savannah went through the other contents of the envelope and saw a business card twenty hundred dollar bills.
" Wow mom look at this, they gave us their business card and two thousand dollars!" Savannah said as she flashed the bills around.
" Give me that. But mom, it says here that the Cafè is an hour 30 minutes drive from here, you can't go there everyday". Adam said as he snatched the card from Savannah.
" Don't worry, I'm going to call them and ask when it's most efficient for me to start work, then I'll find a way for us to be closer to my work place". Amanda said as she sat down on the couch.
" So does that mean we're moving?" Savannah said as she jumped up .
" Calm down Savannah, mom means something else".
" And how would you know that".
" Because_"
" Shush you guys," Amanda shouted which kept the two of them quite, " I haven't thought about it fully yet but, Savannah is right, we might have to move". Amanda said and the three of them looked at each other concerned before Savannah grabbed her phone and rushed up to her room.
She shut the door behind her and sat down on the floor. After all what she has been through, she never thought that one day she'd have to leave her home and move to somewhere else...
