Only a Wolf

'FUCK! WHAT CHEAP QUALITY!' He cursed in his mind.

Under those circumstances, Ezra would not waste that perfect chance, so he spun in the opposite direction and shoved the broken dagger under the jaw of the beast in an attempt to make the most of his advantage, as the beast was still open. Unfortunately, the dagger was utterly useless and bounced off.

The beast reacted this time, and as Ezra was not in a suitable position to evade, he received a direct hit aimed at his face, but managed to block it in time using his forearms. The beast must have put quite some strength into its hind legs when it hit him because the pain was real, and it sent him flying some distance back.

"FUCK."

'Is this thing a horse? Why is its hind attack so powerful?' Ezra cursed as he examined his situation.

The beast attacked immediately, and there was no time to think much, so he baited the beast in leaping into the air enough to expose its under belly. Good thing it was not a cunning one, a beast was still a beast. Ezra rushed forward and materialized his short sword from his inventory, and using his speed to increase damage, Ezra swung with two arms aiming to dig into the beast's belly, killing it in one move, or so he thought…

'CHEAP!!' He cursed in his mind as the sword shattered.

Something was wrong, he figured. After exchanging blows for a bit, Ezra discovered that the areas with red fur seemed to be stronger than the rest of the beast's body. He could have killed it already now, but he decided to gather some intel on it, as he predicted that he would be running into more of its kind. Now that he had learned all he could from it, he could get rid of it.

With a powerful hit to the center of the head, Ezra drove the beast into the ground from above, then without wasting time, he landed on its head, using gravity as a weapon.

No matter how strong of an opponent one faced, there will always be a weakness. One just has to find it, the hole in the loop. In the case of animals, no matter how much muscle one develops, or how much one toughened their body, there was never a remedy to reinforce the joints.

As Ezra landed on its head, he stuck a foot into its mouth to hold down the lower jaw, and dragged the upper one with his hands. The beast wasn't expecting it, so it put on little opposing pressure at first. Ezra couldn't tear its mouth off, but he dislocated the beast' s jaw, before proceeding to twist its neck until he heard several pops and cracks.

.

"It's done." Ezra said, as the kill notification appeared.

[You have killed Steel Furred Wolf]

'It was a wolf?'

Ezra ran into more beasts of the same kind after that, and they even attacked in groups of nothing less than three. Now that he knew how to deal with them, it wasn't too hard. He did have to use his 'Recovery' skill twice, so it wasn't a walk through, especially as he no longer had any weapons, and the beasts were close to red names too. He could have used his saved up health potions, but he also needed to recover stamina, so the skill was more efficient in that aspect overall.

Using the appearance of the daily quests as reference, Ezra calculated how long he had spent in the cave he woke up in. This place really encouraged one to be daring, and not to mention, it was a nice place to level up and get stronger, not to mention, it was giving him the battle experience he had never gotten. The capable also had it hard.

At the present moment, Ezra had already spent four days in this cave, though he saw it more as a dungeon, with the appearance of monsters. Also, there was the time he failed the daily quest and got forcefully teleported to face the punishment. At the time, he was sure he heard the system say something about abyss.

'Does that mean there's no end to this hell?' Ezra thought to himself. And to think of it, abyss was also a word used to describe a bottomless place. Abysses usually have no end.

Thinking of it, Ezra could imagine the consequences of this, if it was actually so. He decided to keep it at the back of his mind and move on for the time being.

'Come to think of it… I can get food and every daily necessity while in this place…' Ezra once again stopped himself there and did not think of it any further. There was no use taking away his hope at such an early stage. At least he could do that when there was no longer any choice for survival.

Using the daily quests, Ezra continued counting how long he had stayed in that cave, until… He lost count. Really, it wasn't a difficult thing, all he needed to do was count every time he got the quest, but his mentality in such a place almost wasn't keeping up after very long. Though he wasn't able to pinpoint it, Ezra was sure that by this time, he had already spent more than fifty days there.
