Jane pounded on the car window and yelled outside, while Elizabeth and Alice Garcia stood on the porch watching them. Elizabeth had no expression on her face, while Alice Garcia looked resentful.
They were likely indifferent to Jack's life or death.
"John, stop the car. I need to save Jack, I have to save Jack." John had already started the car and was driving away from Jane's villa.
She screamed with heart-wrenching anguish, but John seemed to not hear her.
His hand gripping the steering wheel was taut, his eyes appeared to be focused ahead but also empty, and he seemed to be in a trance-like state.
"John, I've already told you everything. What more do you want?" She shouted until she was hoarse, feeling a burning pain in her throat. She covered her face with her hands in anguish and was on the brink of a breakdown. Despite her demand, she sounded weak and lacked the necessary assertiveness.
John's expression was grim. "Wait until Brian figures things out."
At his words, Jane turned pale and collapsed weakly into her seat.
While she was coughing and losing consciousness, John tossed her phone to her. She grasped the phone, sneered in cold laughter, and wondered if he planned to make her call Simon Kang once he found out the results?
Ridiculous! Absurd!
She lowered her head and quickly dialed Aunt Xia's number. It went through, and she said in a hurry, "Aunt Xia, where are you? Jack is having a heart attack. Please help him."
"I'm home now," Aunt Xia replied. This morning, she had cooked a table full of food according to Alice Garcia's orders. As it approached dinner time, Alice Garcia suddenly asked her to buy sea bass, and she went without thinking. She had no idea that so much had happened while she was gone. "Don't worry, Miss Jane. Jack will be fine."
After hanging up the phone, Jane's worries about Jack dissipated.
While she was on the phone, John's face had turned black as the bottom of a pot. He was driving so fast that it seemed like he was attempting suicide. She was so frightened that she fastened her seat belt. After a while, they arrived at Lavender Manor villa. He pulled her out of the car and dragged her into the villa, ultimately leading her to the attic where Jack had been locked up last time.
There was nothing in the attic except for a small sealed window with a wooden board nailed over it, blocking out any trace of light.
Without a word, John pushed her inside, causing Jane to cling onto the doorframe in fear. "I don't want to stay here, please," she pleaded.
Jane had a fear of enclosed spaces, especially those without windows or light.
John's face turned cold as he forcefully pulled Jane into the attic and slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
"Ah!" Jane screamed as the door shut and all the light was cut off. However, her cries were short-lived as her throat became hoarse and eventually she couldn't even make a sound.
In the pitch-black darkness, Jane hugged herself tightly, trembling all over as she tried to calm down and remind herself that she had to stay strong and make it out safely.
She started singing to herself:
Once I thought your shoulders were where I could lean on and rely,
But now you've used cold frost to pour into my heart and leave me to die.
Love is gone, feelings faded, everything has flown away,
So I'll move forward and won't look back,
Tomorrow will still bring sunshine, even if you're not in my way.
...
I am Jane, born with the gift of Starlight, I have my own nobility, the world will look up to me,
Those who abandon me today, cannot stay,
Those who love me tomorrow, will always remember my name.
I am Jane, born with the gift of courage, I have my own perseverance, the world will admire me,
Those who bully me today, will be repaid in kind,
Those who trust me tomorrow, I will thank them in kind.
...
Song after song flowed effortlessly from her lips, but at this moment, her once beautiful voice was now hoarse and rough, with even her high notes only coming out as a hissing sound.
