"So what is the problem?" She asks carefully. He looks at her before looking down again at his feet.
"Me." He responds carefully, making her lavender eyes narrow a fraction.
"Bullshit." She frowns at him. He shifts, still looking guilty and uneasy.
"It is me. A-And you…" He starts before picking up his head as he takes in a deep breath. "You've been working too much and we never get to see each other."
"Marvin. We agreed this was going to be temporary- to get out of here and build a life together!" She reminds him in frustration.
"We can't build a life together…" He murmurs.
"Why not? What has changed?" She presses.
"I… I slept with Janet…" He confesses with a hushed tone. She straightens at that, looking into the raven haired man's green eyes. "I'm so sorry, Lucy…"
"Two years." She murmurs, eyes becoming distant with the memories of their time spent together. "You wasted two years of my life." She blinks back, shaking her head. "Goodbye Marvin." She breathes before stalking away, leaving him on the sidewalk, watching after her. She tugs up the collar of her oversized black trench coat, trying to hide her face.
She swallows back the lump in her throat, rubbing her eyes to put the tears to rest as she dials up her best friend. She would know what to do… How to help.
After a few rings comes an answer, 'Hey what's up?' The one on the other end yawns. Lucy pauses, raising an eyebrow and checking the position of the sun.
"I woke you? It's like five…" She huffs lightly.
'Mm I worked the graveyard shift.' Came the sleepy response.
"Ah. Sorry then." Lucy breathes, suddenly feeling like a bother.
'It's fine I slept in way later than I planned… What's wrong?' Her friend inquires.
"Marvin… He screwed one of his co-workers." Lucy manages, calming her tears by gritting her teeth. The other end goes quiet for a moment.
'Let's kill him.' Came the whisper. The statement makes Lucy pause before letting out a giggle.
"No Nova." She shakes her head.
'We could totally get away with it!' Her friend insists.
"Everyone that gets arrested probably thinks the same thing." Lucy points out.
'Fine… I'm still going to break his nose though… What are you going to do?' Nova inquires.
"I… Right now I'm going to The Pit and get stupid drunk and regret it in the morning." Lucy grumbles.
'Okay, I'll be there soon.' Nova responds before they say their goodbyes and hang up. She reaches the bar and grill, going in and sitting at the countertop. She orders some ribs and whatever drink they had on special. She peers at the television which most of the customers were watching with interest. On the screen it was showing strange lights in the clouds.
Before long someone joins her. "Lucy, you okay?" They ask, making her look over to see one of her friends, Molly. "Nova messaged me. Told me you were here." The brunette rubs her blonde friend's back.
"I'm mad." Lucy flares up slightly before ripping the meat from the rib she had with her teeth. "Like what the hell did he expect when we decided to work hard and save up to get out of this hell hole?" She growls as she eats, licking the barbeque sauce from her lips. "You work a lot when you work hard. That's the whole point!"
"He just couldn't handle it hun, I told you he was flakey." Molly shakes her head with a frown.
"I'm here Lucy!" A call sounds behind them before Lucy is hugged from behind.
"Hey Katie." Lucy greets, still glaring at the plate.
"You're going to be just fine. You didn't need him anyway." Katie pats the blonde's shoulders.
"Damn right." Lucy huffs before taking a big sip. "Loser can't even keep a promise! None of 'em can!"
"Ain't that the truth." Another woman joins in, leaning on the counter. Lucy meets the ebony woman's eyes.
"Hi Jay-Jay." Lucy hums.
"Girl, you are a mess. Why did you let that man get you down?" Jay-Jay says bluntly.
"Because it was two fuckin years and
I… Is that all I'm worth? Two years?" Lucy wonders, frowning at the almost empty plate.
"Imma smack you." Jay-Jay says straightening up, Katie immediately hugging her arm to keep the other woman from acting on her words.
"Of course you're worth more than that Lucy! He just wasn't." Katie tells the blonde as Lucy gets a karate chop to the head from a blue haired woman.
"What Katie said." The newcomer huffs.
"Ow… It took you long enough Nova." Lucy complains.
"I was getting the party together before I got here. Now let's celebrate your freedom!" Nova cheers. The other girls cheer at that and start to order their own drinks.
They were pleasantly buzzed by the end of the next hour. Lucy was the worst though, barely able to stand straight. "Heeey barkeep! Can we change the channel? I don't wanna watch the alien lights no more." The blonde asks, pointing at the television.
"I tried, that's on all of the channels." He responds with a shrug.
"Damn." Lucy leans on Katie as a tremor shakes the building.
"What the hell was that?" Jay-Jay huffs.
"An earthquake?" Nova offers, peering at the windows.
"Ugh… I'm going to the bathroom." Lucy breathes, feeling queasy as she hurries for the restroom.
"I'll go with you Lu!" Katie gasps hurrying after her drunk friend.
"We should probably head home soon." Nova frowns following along with Molly and Jay-Jay.
"If it does that again we- getting out of here." Jay-Jay agrees as the females fill the bathroom. Katie holds back Lucy's blonde pigtails as she leans over a toilet trying to release the contents of her stomach.
"Just hang in there Lucy." Molly says loudly for her to hear, now sober as she looks toward the door worriedly.
"I feel like shit all of a sudden." Lucy grumbles.
"You just let it out, I'll pour some of my mouthwash in your mouth when you're done." Jay-Jay says going through her bulky purse. Another tremor starts to shake the building again, this time it doesn't stop.
"What the hell is going on!?" Katie gasps, trying to keep Lucy up as she puts her hands on the stall walls whilst vomiting.
"It's not stopping!" Nova manages, holding onto a stall door in alarm.
"We need to get out before this whole place falls-" Jay-Jay cuts off as her keys and knives and all the metallic things in her purse start to float out of it drifting to the ceiling. "What in the hell!?"
"It's the aliens!" Molly cries out suddenly. "We're going to die!" She starts to panic.
"Time to get out…" Lucy manages, using some toilet paper to wipe her mouth as the pipes around them start to creak around them.
"Come on now, hurry!" Jay-Jay rushes to the door, already abandoning her floating belongings.
Nova follows after her quickly, Katie and Lucy moving to do the same. Lucy stops briefly to smack Molly out of her hysteria before pulling her along out of the door.
The bar was empty as they went out, the streets outside had people running around in a panic. "Stay close together. Let's run for the park!" Jay-Jay tells the girls before they join the rushing crowds.
They stepped into chaos. Cars were drifting up into the sky, buildings falling apart as the metal holding it all together started for the sky. The group of women stop in their tracks to look up at the sky, a large shape was stretching over the sky.
"... Holy shit…" Lucy whispers.
"How do we escape that?" Katie murmurs as tentacle type things leave the massive ship.
"Run… GO GO GO!" Lucy swiftly implores them. "To the subway!" She nudges them into motion, the group rushing ahead.
The subway was soon in sight but the subway trains were getting ripped out of the ground, causing the damaged tunnels to collapse. Again they stop, all looking around in a panic trying to think of a way to escape.
"The mountains?" Nova gasps looking at the others.
"Can we make it?" Lucy asks unsurely.
"No. We can't run that far." Katie points out.
"Guys!" Molly gasps as her feet start to leave the ground.
"No!" The girls gasp grabbing onto her but their feet start to leave the ground as well. They start to yell and call out, some people running up to try and pull them back down.
"Hang on!" One of the guys gasp, pulling on Jay-Jay's leg.
"Don't let go!" The ebony woman pleads, holding onto her friends, her nails digging into them slightly as the tentacles start toward them from different directions.
"They're coming!" Katie gasps. The people that had been trying to help suddenly let go, running for cover.
"I love you guys!" Molly cries as a tentacle suction cup pulls on her.
"No! Molly!" Lucy gasps as her friend is ripped out of their grasp.
"No! No no no!" Jay-Jay starts to panic as another one starts to pull her away, the girls panic more trying to stay together to no avail, each one of them getting ripped away into another suction cup. Lucy tumbles up the tube, a pinkish gas being released from the walls soon making her world go dark.
