A Fairy's Worth

I let my legs relax on the floor and allowed the book to settle on my lap, I arched my back against the shelf behind and my eyes scanned the contents, it was easy to read, good.

But the first thing that caught my attention was the drawing of something beautiful with wings like that of a butterfly, it was so beautiful even if it wasn't fully detailed, I could tell it was a woman too.

The drawing consists of a winged woman and her clothes that I knew if they had colors would be the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, it truly was wondrous, and a smile fixed on my lips as I further studied the picture.

She sat on something that looked like a tree, it looked magical, Beneath the drawing I saw writing.

'Fae'. That word again but there was more. 'Picture of a Fae also widely known in the magical world as a sprite'

I flipped the page and read further.

'Sprites are a type of mythical beings and legendary creatures that have been in existence since the beginning of time, they are also as old as the Holy Library. A form of spirit, often described as supernatural, or preternatural. They have a kinly nature of living in the forest and nature is what speaks to them for they have a deep connection with it, like a spirit tethered to it'

So that's why I love flowers and anything that has to do with plants. This explains it, whenever I see a flower I am always fascinated and want to speak to it for no reason at all. I talked to no one back at the orphanage so I was sort of comforted by randomly speaking to flowers even though they cannot hear me. Yes, it is sad, but it was the closest thing to peace I had.

No one talked to me and never liked me and I had a feeling I'm about to find out more about that. I suddenly got scared of realizing the truth of my nature but I pushed it aside because my curiosity was eating me up.

'They are versatile creatures of beauty and wisdom, they live in many places but their place of birth is the same dimension as the Holy Library, for they are creatures of the same time and space'

My eyes went wide… does this mean there were sprites here too? I flipped the page and I found another heading, one I have most likely been waiting for. 'Fairies'

I gulped as my eyes scanned through the contents.

'The name Fairy began when half-bloods surfaced in the mortal realm, a mixed bloodline of Fae blood and Mortal blood. They are a rare kind for only in centuries do they appear, a miracle of a rare bloodline. Because of such fate, their time in the mortal realm is nothing but cruel to the fairies, because staying off balance from their dimension causes them to be hated and used for any value, their values are high for 'Warlocks' who are humans who possess magical blessing known as 'Magic'.

They are rare so thereby they are sorted by high powers for their blood holds power that can make even the strongest elixirs. Their flesh can be used to forge any form of weapon, their voice can be used to tame even the most ferocious beasts. Their kiss holds healing qualities that can heal any fatal wound. Their eyes hold unsee powers.

Lastly, their lives have no meaning for the mortal realm is not their place of nature.'

My eyes trembled, as well as my hands now holding my book, it fell off and dropped on my lap, and my eyes continued to quaver nonstop in silence. I have finally found the truth and answer I sought for years here. It was right before me enough to pierce my very heart, I understood why I was considered an omen by society, why I was randomly hated, and why I was abandoned at such a young age. Why the Grandmaster saw my value when no one else did, he was a Warlock that's why... a human with magic, the other people back at the auction were the same too that was why millions were called for my worth.

And that is why... I pulled my knees to my chest. That is why William purchased me, this was my worth, he was a man of knowledge after all so he must know... he must know my worth, that was the reason why even though I told him I was mute he said.

'I only care about your worth'

Of course the worth of my eyes, flesh, and blood.

The tears fell before I could stop them, from one hellhole to another, this is why I was fed and taken care of, because of my worth, because one day he would use me as he so desires. I wasn't safe here... there was a ticking death clock on my head, one day or sooner I will be killed and used for his silly desires.

I'm not safe here. I'm terrified... I'm bewildered, I don't know what to do but only to silently cry to myself and ponder what my cruel future has for me. Dear gods help me... I rather die than be nothing as an insignificant use for a warlock. I regret it now... I regret not starving myself to death when I had the chance, I might have rid myself of this dreadful fate.

"Ava"

I shot my head up at the sudden voice, William stood before me out of nowhere... and I sat up with a start and backed away from him like he was some demon, He is... he's like them too... he's a warlock, a warlock who was a dangerous species to Fairies, this explains it all... why his aura has darkness, I was at death doors the moment I was purchased by this man.
