I had hoped I could get the prince to admit he didn't want to make a choice, that he didn't want to marry me or one of my sisters, but he was too smart, too calculated to openly admit his true feelings, especially in ballroom full of people with magical abilities. The risk of someone overhearing was too great - which was exactly what I'd been counting on Jax doing, and when he abruptly walked away, I knew he'd heard.
Now, I only hoped Jax could do what he did best and find a way to use this newfound information to force the king to release all of us from this blood oath, his own son included. If nothing else, I was pinning a lot of hope on the fact that the king loved his son more than he loved the idea of having more power.
Finally, the song ended, and another melody began. I stepped from the prince's embrace and bowed. "Thank you for the dance."
