Jax doubled over, hands on his knees, and dry heaved. I winced and cautiously rested my hand on his back. "Are you sure you're okay?"
We'd been portaling from state to state for a solid twelve hours. I'd warned him this would be difficult and that he might suffer some side effects. I severely underestimated how bad they'd affect him. But the worst part was we still had two more portals to jump through before we could finally stop.
"Yeah," Jax croaked. He straightened and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.
He swayed on his feet, and I instinctively reached out to steady him. "Maybe we should just stop for today." I chewed on my lip and glanced around.
