Draven Coven Castle
I paced in the small room hidden behind the library and waited for my father to show up. He'd sent Lawrence to my room first thing this morning and demanded my presence, and now he wasn't even here. Part of me wondered if something had happened to him. He wasn't getting any younger, and he'd been under an incredible amount of stress lately. While I completely disagreed with everything he'd done and said recently, his sudden death would only complicate an already convoluted situation. I needed him to stick around a little bit longer.
The door swung open, and my father marched into the room. His face was red, and he was out of breath. I opened my mouth to ask if he was alright, but he held up his hand to silence me.
"I'm fine," he said and pushed the door shut. Locks clicked into place.
"Is Mother joining us?" I asked, stilling my pacing, and clasping my hands behind my back.
Father shook his head. "She chose to sleep in this morning."
