Piper gasped, then slapped her hand over her mouth. "You sure?"
"No." I grabbed her hand and dragged her into the cabin. I closed and locked the door, not that a flimsy human door lock would keep anyone out, especially not a witch. "Whoever is here is hiding," I whispered, and then turned to inspect the rest of the house.
"Jax!" Piper clutched my arm, eyes wide, and she inclined her head toward the back of the cabin.
I listened intently. No movement, but I heard the distinct sound of raspy breathing. My heart thrashed violently in my chest, and my heightened senses sharpened even more. I took hold of Piper's hand, guided her behind me, and then very slowly crept through the living room, past the kitchen, and down the hall.
Behind me, Piper froze. I stopped and glanced back at her. She narrowed her eyes, then yanked open one of the bedroom doors. "Show yourself," she commanded.
