Chapter 110: Refuse

"It's literally you." Kang patiently explained. "Because you are a person outside of time, you can influence the timeline but cannot be influenced by it. Simply put, you can make the timeline move in any direction you want."

"Even I am affected by the timeline. For example, if I don't control it, the Sacred Timeline will collapse, and the multiverse war will still come. But it's different with you."

"How am I different?" Jack furrowed his brows and said in a low voice, "Even if I'm here instead of you, what's the difference? I still have to strictly control the timeline to prevent the attack of the multiverse war."

"No, no, this is completely different" Kang placed his hands on the table and looked at Jack seriously. "Because you can choose to change the timeline's direction at any point in time, you can truly end the war."

"..."

Jack was still confused and didn't understand what Kang meant.

Seeing the four people in front of him still not getting it, Kang became somewhat frustrated and scratched his head as if he didn't know how to explain it.

"I think I understand," Bucky suddenly said.

Bucky suddenly raised his hand, feeling awkward as everyone looked at him. "I think what he means is...if you replace him, the war won't happen because he previously said...in other timelines, you don't exist."

"Right! That's it."

Kang looked relieved and nodded frantically. "Because there's only one of you, so if you replace me, the multiverse war won't happen."

"No, there's still a problem."

Jack spoke up again about his doubts after he had time to think.

"Even if I replace you when the timeline gets to where you are, you will still be able to find other timelines, and the multiverse war will still happen."

"That's the point."

When Kang heard what Jack said, he suddenly collapsed in his chair and sighed softly. "The flow of time is very mysterious. I was able to discover the existence of the timeline by chance. And the chances of that happening are so low that it can be ignored."

"Here, all I need to do is to end the war that may happen with just a thought, but I can't do it because of my identity."

"How would i do it?" asked Jack

"Just don't let me or anyone else discover the timeline's existence. That's easy, all you have to do is press a button."

Jack had to admit that this was a simple and easy way to do things, but as long as no one found out about other timelines, there would be no chance of a multiversal war.

And Jack could guess why Kang couldn't do it himself, but he still needed Kang to tell him.

As he thought, what Kang said next revealed his identity.

"But because I'm Kang, if the inevitable result of Kang discovering the timeline is erased from the timeline, then how did I come here?"

"Time paradox," Jack let out a sigh. "You can't kill your past self, just like you can't erase the result of you discovering the timeline. Otherwise, you won't exist anymore. Then who erased this result?"

He stared straight at Kang. "As you said, the timeline doesn't affect me, no matter what I do here, there won't be any accidents, right?"

"Right!" Kang nodded heavily and softly said, "The continuity of time and space cannot be broken. Otherwise, unimaginable disasters will occur, more horrible than the multiversal war, but that's only for us. It's different for you. You don't exist in any past or future, only in the present, at the moment. You can change the timeline, but the timeline doesn't affect you, so only you can press the button to end the multiversal war."

"Now, do you want to take over this button?"

As he spoke, Kang took off the watch on his wrist and handed it to Jack.

"I think I understand now." Jack let out a sigh of relief, and all of a sudden, his mind became clear.

Kang's explanation helped him understand why he didn't work into the concept of time because he was separated from time. Simply put, if the timeline was a computer, he was the user.

As for why he was such a unique existence, Jack was not surprised at all.

The topic returned to the button. Jack understood Kang's intention in asking for his help. Obviously, this guy who had lived for countless years had grown tired of his job, even though it gave him power and eternal life.

But Jack knew that he wouldn't take eternal life if it meant being stuck in this place forever, even if he had all the power in the world. He picked up the unique watch and looked at it before suddenly throwing it back to Kang, saying firmly.

"I refuse!"

No one in the room really thought he would say no. Sylvie and Bucky were both surprised, while Loki looked envious and jealous.

Even Kang seemed stunned, looking down at the watch and blinking his eyes.

Jack didn't care about the expressions on everyone's faces. He had his own plans. He couldn't stay in this place forever, even if he wanted to prevent the multiverse war. That would be so boring.

In his past life, he loved Marvel movies because this world was anything but peaceful, and was full of excitement and danger. He was just the kind of person who loved thrills and excitement.

The Multiverse War?

Just hearing the name made him excited. In the future, he might even be able to visit other parallel worlds and have some fun.

So you expect him to stay here and stabilize the timeline? How is that even possible?

"You...you refuse?"

Only now did Kang slowly return to his senses, staring at Jack in disbelief. He looked at Bucky and the others beside him and asked: "Did he just say...refuse?"

"If you're not deaf, then yes."
