Chapter 10

The drive to the Summit Mountain pack took about 3 hours. I left early in the morning, so I could have the day to get things in order depending on what they may need from my pack. By the time I arrived, I badly needed a run and food. I informed the warriors at the gate who I was, and they mindlinked someone before opening the gate for me. The view was breathtaking, pulling up to the packhouse. They had luscious trees all over the place. Many houses could be seen between the trees with people just starting their days. I passed a small village in the center where I could see shops and places to eat. The packhouse was huge, easily 4 or 5 floors. It looked a bit like a castle but was a bit more modern. It was painted white with green trim. When I parked in front of the packhouse, I was met by someone ready to take my bags. As I walked up to the door, I was greeted by a tall man. I didn't recognize him since Kehlani had brought her Gamma with her to the meeting that day. Upon seeing me, the man looked me up and down before extending his hand. “Welcome to the Summit Mountain pack; I'm Beta Jax Percy. And you are…..” He questioned me.

“I'm Beta Jayden Winters from the Lunar pack. It is a pleasure to meet you. Your Alpha was visiting my pack yesterday and was called away abruptly. My Alpha sent me to see if there was anything we could do to help.” I noticed Jax smirking at me while I was talking. I wonder if Kehlani told him who I was.

“Well, your visit is appreciated. Please follow me. I will take you to my Alpha’s office.” With that, Jax turned towards the door and pushed it open so we could walk in. The inside of the packhouse was magnificent. The walls were long to accommodate the high ceiling, with an intricate chandelier over the foyer. It looks to be quite fragile. The area was open, with seating to the left and the staircase to the right. As we walked up the stairs, Jax explained, “All of our offices and conference rooms are on the second floor. The first floor is for the pack to gather, you know to hang out, eat, etc. All living quarters are the floors above this one. Any unmated wolves that want to stay in the packhouse are welcomed on the 3rd floor. My quarters, along with the Gamma’s, are located on the 4th floor, and the Alpha has the entire 5th floor.” It is evident that this house has been around a while, but it is in excellent condition. As we walk down the halls of the 2nd floor, we stop at a black door. “This is Alpha’s office. I will let you wait here. She is still on the training grounds and will be finished shortly.” Jax stated as he opened the black door and walked away.

I walked into the room and took a look around. The office had a fireplace at the far end. There was a wine bar near the fireplace with many different bottles. A black couch was facing the fireplace with an armchair on each side. A coffee table was in front of that made of dark oak. Half of the wall was filled with large bay windows, and the other half held a bookcase. The desk was in front of the windows facing the fireplace with a comfortable-looking chair pushed into it. I sat in one of the chairs opposite the big chair and waited.

~Kehlani~

I'm stuck on the mystery of these rogue attacks. Why are they so organized when you usually see one or two rogues together? Who left the message for me, and what exactly did they mean? I couldn’t figure it out and had no clues to go on, resulting in a sleepless night. I woke up early to run training and have been here for a few hours now.

Hey, uh, Alpha….Kehlani…...Red? Jax mindlinked me.

What is it? I'm on the training grounds.

You have a ….. visitor. They are waiting to see you.

Well, who is it? I was not expecting anyone to show up.

I will let you find out for yourself. They are waiting in your office.

Sometimes Jax can be so annoying. Luckily my session was already nearing its end before Jax mindlinked me. As everyone started to get their water and towels, I started to walk toward the packhouse. I had worked up quite a sweat and wanted nothing more than to take a long, hot shower. I had no idea who could be waiting for me, and I wondered if I should change. I was in everyday workout attire; a baby blue sports bra paired with black capri leggings. My braids were put up into a high ponytail. I figured whoever it was should be okay with what I was wearing, seeing as how they showed up unexpectedly. I walked into the packhouse and onto the 2nd floor. As I walked down the hall, I started to get a whiff of a scent.

Oh, goddess…..is he really here?

I think so. I think our mate came to us, Kehlani.

Damn Kia. I should have showered or something.

As soon as I walk to my office door, his scent hits me like a freight train. It's way too strong to be denied. My mate, Jayden, drove to my pack to see me. Isn’t this a turn of events? He sat in front of my desk in blue jeans and a white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbow. Damn, he's looking so good. I can feel my body reacting to his presence and his scent. My core is starting to ache and definitely getting wet. He slowly turned around, and his eyes looked me up and down slowly as if trying to commit every detail to memory. He sat up in his seat, and I slowly made my way to my desk chair. I swallowed the lump forming in my throat. “What brings you here?” I ask Jayden.

“You left so abruptly yesterday, and you seemed so worried. Alpha Issac thought that maybe your pack needed help, and he sent me to see about that,” Jayden spoke, and my heart fluttered a mile a minute. Just his voice was doing things to me that I had no control over.

“So you are only here to see if we need help?” I ask Jayden. I cocked my head and looked into his eyes. “You could have checked on me through a phone call you know.”

Jayden continued to look at me occasionally, his eyes dropping to my lips and coming up again. “I could have called; this is true. I just thought maybe it may be better to have this conversation in person. You never told me what was going on here, and you have been called away twice already.”

“I'm so glad you noticed my absence,” I responded with a wink. I clear my throat and open my desk drawer to pull out the note left for me. “Both times I was called away, it was because of rogue attacks.”

Jayden raises his eyebrow at that. “I would imagine, you being an Alpha of your caliber, your warriors are trained to deal with any rogue attack.”

“You are correct, but these attacks have been different to say the least. Each attack has had anywhere from 15-20 rogues and the second attack, this was left behind.” I hand Jayden the envelope as I finish talking. He reads the note and looks at me.

“So they are targeting you specifically. Any idea why?” he asks.

“No clue and I have been trying to rack my brain to figure it out,” I reply.

“Hang on, and let me call Issac. Maybe he has some insight or has heard of these types of attacks before.” Jayden gets up and walks towards the fireplace while placing the call to Issac. He must have answered quickly because Jayden almost immediately explains the situation. As I watched him, I couldn’t help but be overcome with lustful thoughts. His hands all over my body….me pushing him down on that couch and straddling him…..grabbing the back of his head while he pushes his tongue deep into my mouth. I was so deep in thought that I didn’t notice that Jayden had finished his phone call and sat back in front of me. I tried to look anywhere but at him and could feel my face flush. Jayden chuckled a bit. “You know that I can smell your arousal right now.”

I cleared my throat and tried to ignore the tension in the air. “Um...what did Issac have to say?”

Jayden just smiled at me; damn, that gorgeous smile. “He agreed that so many rogues are not common and makes him feel as if they have been specifically sought out in large numbers and told to attack your pack. The note further implies as such. He is wondering what may have happened recently that could have set someone off. He doesn’t think this is something regarding an old transgression because if that was the case, this would have been going on for a while.” I had no idea what to say because I could not think of anything out of the ordinary. I started to rub my temples while trying to rack my brain.

“I honestly have no idea what this could be about. I can’t think of anything that has happened recently,” I reply, rubbing my eyes. The lack of sleep last night is starting to get to me. Jayden must have been able to tell because he got up, walked around the side of my desk and held out his hand to me.

“Come here, you look like you need some rest.”

“No, I’m fine,” I reply. Then my body betrayed me, and I yawned a very big yawn. I quickly covered my mouth as if he didn’t see or hear that.

Jayden smiled. “Please take my hand.” He motioned to me with his outstretched hand, waiting for me to grab it. I finally did, and he pulled me up from my chair. Jayden walked us over to the couch, and he laid on it, pulling me with him. “Use my chest as your pillow and just sleep. We can lay here as long as you need; I'm not going anywhere.” As badly as I wanted to protest, I was just way too tired. I lay on his chest and listened to his heartbeat. It was so soothing, along with his scent; the darkness quickly took over.
