23 Fight
The moment she sensed the unfamiliar aura, she didn’t hesitate—she teleported them both to the rooftop. Her eyes scanned the surroundings, sharp and alert, as she searched for the source of this unfamiliar feeling.
“Over there.” Vincent pointed out the rooftop of Building 02. She then grabbed his shoulder and they teleported again to the Building 02. And as Vincent said, the source of this aura is really there.
Lying on the roof while his eyes closed. But it didn’t escape in her eyes the fresh wound in the man’s arms.
“How did a fallen clan come into this world? Are you also asking for refuge?”
The man opened his eyes and stared at them. But he already cast a shadow mask that hid his real figure.
“Refuge.” He mumbled. Then he also noticed the foreign power within the woman who is pointing a sword in his head. He can’t be wronged. It is also the same with the person whom he fought before he was sent in the time reversal.
“Why aren’t you answering? Are you also asking for refuge?” He stared at the emblem of her sword. Her forehead creased. ‘A Royal knight emblem?’
“REFUGE?”
“The portal was sealed,” Vincent answered from beside her. “The last few who managed to escape the kingdom ended up here in the mortal world. But no mermaid clan has reported making it out before the portal is sealed. Not a single one.”
“So have you been hiding here? or are you just able to find a way to escape? And where did you get those wounds? Especially that big wound, it is too fresh yet it is already smelling rotten.”
Eve glared at Vincent before she returned her eyes to the man in front of her. Giving him a doubtful look to answer them honestly.
“Smelling rotten?”
The man muttered in disbelief. Of course the wound in his skin is caused by that mysterious man. It took him days to be able to enter the small shards of the time Reversal.,
“You should have asked yourself…” Eve's forehead creased, she already sensed that the man in front of her already knew her real condition. But she couldn’t be sure of it if he's not gonna confirm it.
“Why aren’t you rotting already?” Eve growled, pressing the tip of her sword closer to the man’s forehead.
But the man only smiled—as if her threat meant nothing.
Then, as the first rays of sunrise broke over the horizon and touched them, his form shimmered—and vanished with the light, leaving only silence behind.
“Was that a ghost?” Vincent commented in disbelief as he witnessed how the man disappeared in front of them.
Eve was completely dumbfounded, but the hatred she felt right now lingers around her system. That man definitely saw her real condition. And other than that he seems to have more knowledge about them.
“That wasn’t a ghost.” Eve calmly said and stared at the blood on the roof that was left out by the man.
“So you mean, that was a night mermaid. Once the sun appeared in front of them, they disappeared and were sent back to the night… Seems like he’s lucky.”
That man is indeed lucky. He was able to escape because of the sunrise. But the source of his wound is similarly caused by the undead.
“Unbelievable. Night mermaid has perished because they were known for their carnival behavior. They ate humans that made them the mortal enemy of the white mermaid.”
Eve stared at the sun rise slowly showing itself between the two mountains. “We can’t disregard this fact anymore, this world has slowly become the same as what our Kingdom suffered the most.”
They were about to leave when they noticed the barrier that surrounded the two of them. “Someone is here.”
Vincent whispered as he prepared the hilt of his sword. Then the source of the barrier appeared in front of them.
“You're not the one I’ve been looking for…” It was Lourdez’s voice.
As soon as the pain subsided, she bolted upstairs, rushing to the rooftop. But she was too late—the one she had come to capture had already escaped.
However, two more figures stood where he once was. Strangely, they seemed even more suspicious than the man before.
Her eyes narrowed, especially at the woman standing behind the boy.
Isn’t he one of my students?
“You’re not like the others... not like those mindless beings. Zombies. The undead.” Lourdez’s eyes narrowed as she studied her. “You still have your intelligence. Are you... some kind of mutation?”
Eve smiled as she realized.
Only a few had been infected by the same virus that had devastated the kingdom—and now it had reached the mortal world. It was all because of her, the old woman in front of them was able to stop its spreading.
The old woman who casted this powerful ancient barrier.
Eve stepped forward and looked at the barrier before she spoke.
“We are not here to fight against the guardian,” it is even clearly visible how Vincent was completely shocked when she muttered the term Guardian.
“Of course, you won't. Undeads are only here to satisfy their hunger. Secretly infiltrating the school to infect more of the students… And it is even worse to see an intellectual undead.”
“I’m not one of those.” Eve defended herself.
But Lourdez doesn’t believe it. She had been dealing with undead students multiple times since the outbreak of the portal 9 years ago. And since then, it didn’t stop there. The number of students getting infected has gradually increased over time, able to stop the wide horizon of its spreading and able to twist the public, but there was even no cure that has been formulated over the years. Instead, the bodies of the undead just end up rotten and die after it completely decomposes over time.
“Talk to this.” As soon as she said that, she controlled the air inside the barrier to suffocate them. Vincent quickly used his sword to break-free the strong force of the barrier.
“You can’t just slice that thing. It is a powerful type of barrier.” Eve said to him, Vincent looked at her in disbelief. He’s almost losing his breath but Eve seems not bothered by it.
Is this also a perks of being none-human and none-undead?
“So even the loss of oxygen doesn’t stop you at all.” Lourdes remarked. Eve looked at Vincent and she could sense how unstable his breathing was as he kept slicing through the barrier.
“As I said earlier, we are not the ones who caused the unbalance of this world.” Eve said, covering the worries as she sees Vincent fighting for his life.
“Really, then what are you?” Lourdez added more tension inside the barrier and Vincent froze in his position then his knees trembled before he fell to his knees.
“Enough that! He is still a human. He is different from me.” Lourdes still added more force in the barrier that made Vincent turn red in suffocation. No matter how Eve pleaded and prevented a more unnecessary issue to the guardians of the mortal world, Lourdes wouldn’t budge to listen.
Eve got annoyed so she unsheathed her sword and called the power of the wind spirit.
“O whispering winds from skyward high, heed my voice and swiftly fly.
By breath of air and ancient name, let the spirit of wind now stake its claim."
The flow of the wind inside the barrier changed. Her sword releases a new source of wind and even makes Vincent in a relief state. Eve’s eyes glow in white and her sword is covered with the wind aura.
Lourdes was completely shocked as she witnessed the appearance of the wind spirit. The wind spirit releases a tremendous aura that broke free her barrier and she was affected by it. Her palm was scratched because of it.
“I wasn’t planning to call forth the king of wind spirits but you push me to it.” Eve is slightly furious. People will only listen if she shows the real force that she holds. She thought it was completely different here in the mortal world but then, it proved her wrong.
