There was a whole spread of various foods. They were glistening and calling her by her name. Cindy Richards had always been a foodie so her heart was very satisfied with this but she still looked at Alexander Sterling in shock, "You made all of these?"
Alexander Sterling did not say anything. He simply handed a plate to her and asked her to sit down.
The air was very warm as the two of them dug into their food. Cindy Richards was enjoying herself very much. The meat was very tender and the vegetables were so fresh.
She did not like vegetables very much but this felt like eating ones made in a five-star hotel. She complimented Alexander Sterling diligently, "That was very delicious, thank you."
Alexander Sterling nodded. Both of them helped clear the table and then Alexander Sterling reminded, "You should not skip your meals, I will leave some food for you before I leave for work tomorrow so ensure you eat, okay?"
Cindy Richards was not very ready to be taken care of like this. For some reason, she was reminded of her sister, Carmen Richards. When they were still living together with Alexander Sterling, he must have prepared food for her as well.
A little jealousy settled in her heart. This treatment was very nice, she had to remind herself not to indulge too much lest she lose herself in his nice treatment.
They were only going to be married for about one year. She had to think of those days she was going to live without him as well.
She nodded her head solemnly and walked towards her forgotten designs.
Alexander Sterling followed her, "I saw that you are preparing to look for a job, the company has a design department, so why don't you come to work for us?"
Cindy Richards paused in her steps. She turned around slowly and shook her head, "That won't be possible. I want to start at a small company and rise up slowly. I also haven't finished school yet so working at such a large corporation would put a lot of pressure on me."
This was very true. Those who worked at The Sterling Corporation were the best of the best. The employees comprised people who did exceptionally well in the national examinations and those who had been students at prestigious universities.
It was not that Cindy Richards was afraid of working there it was just that this was nepotism. Many people with excellent qualifications applied to work there yet they were rejected and she would just get in smoothly? That was out of the question.
Alexander Sterling knew what she was thinking about, "You are just making excuses for yourself. I have seen your designs and they are excellent, just what the team needs. If you are worried about being employed then how about you start by being an intern?"
Cindy Richards thought about it for a good while. She needed an internship anyway and having The Richards Corporation in the resume would look quite good in the future. It was a very tempting offer but there was something Cindy Richards had to draw a line on first, "The people cannot know that we are husband and wife. Our marriage will end soon anyway so telling people is pointless."
Alexander Sterling was silent for a good while before he turned around and left for his room leaving Cindy Richards speechless.
She recalled what she had said now and found nothing wrong with it so why would he react that way?
Cindy Richards was very confused.
Alexander Sterling on the other hand banged his door a little louder than normal. He was fuming inside yet he did not want to show this side of him to her.
She was treating this marriage as a tool to get everything her sister had left and what about him? He liked her, wanted her and even if the marriage was loveless, he wanted her by his side.
He knew he was being very selfish in this regard but he could not help but want more from her. He did not want her to leave so he was using every means possible to tie her down.
He waited until the anger in his heart had subsided before he walked slowly to the side and opened a cabinet. Inside lay two photos. One of them was very old while the other was quite new, probably taken recently.
He pulled both photos out and looked at them. In the old one, a young boy of about five or six was holding a baby securely in his arms. He was looking at nothing else but the baby's face.
That boy was him and the little child was Cindy Richards. It had been a week after she was born when Roman Sterling had taken him to the Richards Mansion to congratulate his friend Oliver Richards on the birth of his new child.
Alexander Sterling had taken one look at the baby and even got to carry her. Cindy Richards was whiny and she cried a lot but Alexander Sterling did not want to put her down. He nursed her until she fell asleep. Cindy Richards's mother had taken the photo and handed it to him. He had kept it with him all these years.
The second photo was taken in a garden. Two people were in the photo as well, fifteen-year-old Cindy Richards and twenty-year-old Alexander Sterling. Although Cindy Richards was fifteen, she still looked so childlike with her bright pink suspender skirt, white tights and hair done in pigtails.
The Alexander Sterling in the picture was staring intently at her while she played with a rose flower she had picked. If you looked closely, you could see the small smile on Alexander Sterling's lips. Carmen Richards had taken the photo.
Alexander Sterling stared at the photos for a good while before he returned them back inside the cabinet with a sigh.
He then pulled out his phone and made a call. Once connected, he said, "Design intern, starting tomorrow, create a position."
After that, he effectively cut the call…
