Stacey had a look of fear on her face as she asked. "What is she talking about? What's going on Leo?"
"Relax Ace. Nothing will happen to you. We're all going to be fine." Leo said.
"Apparently we need to make a sacrifice to stop all of this." Chase said to Stacey.
"Stop what? What is going on? All I remember is being attacked by a bunch of wolves and then waking up here!" Stacey yelled.
"They weren't wolves…" Marrissa said, her voice was barely above a whisper.
"Why does someone have to die? Can't we just go home? I want to go home!" Stacey cried.
"No one wants to die!" Marrissa yelled.
The group looked around, Marrissa was right no one wanted to die. Stacey was freaking out as Leo tried to calm her down.
"What about a game?" Andrea suddenly asked.
"What do you mean a game?" Roger asked.
"We always play spin the bottle, when we're bored. So why not play a game? Lighten the mood a little..." Andrea said.
"I can't think of any game where someone dies in the end." Roger said.
"What about Russian roulette?" Leo asked.
"Of course you would suggest a Russian game. You have Russian heritage Leo!" Jake yelled at Leo.
"No one would know who will die that way. It's all about chance…" Leo explained.
Roger looked at the boy as he spoke, "Explain the rules of the game for them?"
"You take a gun and pass it around. There's only one bullet in the chamber. Each player puts the gun to there head and pulls the trigger. The one with the bullet loses…" Leo explained.
"How do you even know about a game like that?!" Jake yelled again.
"My dad's friend died playing it with his friends." Leo said.
"It's the only option we have right now..." Megan said softly.
Everyone looked at her shocked, was she crazy? They had all already made it this far and she was really suggesting that they agreed with Leo. What if Roger was lying to them and nothing changed after someone died? Roger looked at the group as Oswin placed a pistol on the table.
"You're not actually going to go along with this are you guys?!" Stacey yelled.
The group stayed silent as Oswin slowly emptied his chamber, leaving one bullet behind.
"What other choice do we have?!" Chase yelled back at her.
Stacey looked at Leo, she was scared out of her mind. What if she was going to be the one to die?
"Who wants to go first?" Oswin asked.
"Aren't you guys playing?!" Jake asked.
Weather looked at the group sadly as she and Oswin walked away, locking themselves in the bedroom.
"Sorry kids but someone has to watch over the ranch." Roger said. "And you guys are going to need me."
Jake rolled his eyes and looked at his group. No one reached for the gun.
"I'll go first, I guess. I did suggest the game after all..." Leo said.
Stacey opened her mouth to speak, but what could she say, "No Leo you could die!" he wouldn't care anyway. He would sacrifice himself for the group if he had to. As he had done before. As Leo picked up the gun he took a deep breath. His hands shaking as he placed the tip of the barrel to his head. He shuddered as the cold metal touched his skin. He held his breath as he pulled the trigger, a soft click could be heard. Nothing, he looked at his group and shakily held the gun out.
"Who's next...?" Leo asked.
Jake grabbed the gun from Leo, he muttered something about God, before copying exactly what Leo had done. The same soft click could be heard as he pulled the trigger. Again, there was nothing. No bullet. He sighed and handed the gun to Chase. Again, there was nothing as the gun was passed around the group.
The tension was thick, as it loomed over the room. As the gun was passed to Marrissa, she looked at the group.
"I don't know what will happen when I pull the trigger…" Marrissa started.
"No Rissa don't talk like that…." Megan said sadly.
Marrissa gave her a sad smile, "Almost all of you have pulled the trigger, and no one has died yet. I just want you all to know that I love you." Marrissa said softly.
Megan hugged her sister tightly and kissed her forehead, a bad feeling coursed through her body. She feared losing her little sister, hoping they could both avoid harm and return home together.
"Just promise me you'll remember me?" Marrissa asked softly.
The group all looked at her sadly as they nodded. Marissa took a deep breath and offered everyone a gentle smile, before placing the gun to her temple. As Marrissa pulled the trigger a loud bang echoed through the room. Megan let out a scream as her sister collapsed to the floor, lifeless. Her blood began to pool around her head.
"NO!" Tears welled up in her eyes as she screamed, drawing her younger sister into her lap.
As Megan cradled her sister's lifeless body, Roger approached. He reached out to grab her, and Megan's scream pierced the air.
"Don't touch her!!" Megan screamed through tears.
Jake grabbed her and pulled her away from Marrissa. He held her as she cried, tears streamed down Stacey's face as she watched Roger pick up her friend.
"Quickly draw the cross on her wrist." Roger told Leo as he pointed to Stacey.
Leo nodded and grabbed the marker drawing the cross onto his sister's wrist. Roger opened the door and walked outside as he motioned the group to follow. As they walked outside Megan stared at her sister as Roger tied her up to a homemade stake. Jake embraced her, her eyes wide with terror, as Roger reached for a pack of matches. As the sun set the ear-piercing howls could be heard from the tree line once again. Roger looked to his left as he lit a match, throwing it on the stake. Megan let out a scream as she witnessed the flames consume her sister's lifeless body.
A loud snarl echoed from the left; Roger quickly grabbed a stick and ignited it with the flames from the stake. He fixed his gaze on the wolf-like creatures to his left. Assessing the pack, he hurled the torch towards the beasts. They let out loud painful howls as flames enveloped them. The smell of burning flesh burned their noses, Chase fell to his knees and puked. The group watched in horror as one of the beasts shriveled up in flames. While the others disappeared into the wind, just as Weather had said, they were smoke to the wind.
