Chapter 22

If Ishaan had been less practiced a politician he would have gaped like the press did at her eloquence. Her speech was a thing of beauty, hitting all the right notes and tugging on the heartstrings of the reporters and through them of the people watching. She spoke of their small numbers and of how they lived. She spoke of the beauty of the place she found herself and of the kindness of the humans that she’d met so far. Carina outlined their plight with broad strokes and painted a picture of a dying people looking for refuge.

When she fell silent, there were no less than four reporters with tears on their faces. Carina was eloquent and persuasive and the public was going to eat her plea up and demand refugee status for the rest of the Flight. Ishaan stepped forward, shielding Carina from the press and smiled. “That’s all for now. I’ll schedule the press conference and have word sent to your respective stations about the time.”
