Chapter 41

Waiting until the halls were empty and the Flight was asleep was it’s own kind of torment. But Carina forced herself to be still and quiet and wait until the third bell when the Heart would be in devotions to the Mother before she left her chambers and headed for the devotional rooms. The Heart was deep in her devotions and didn’t hear Carina come in so she knelt at the back of the room and waited, trying to fix her mind on what she had to do. She would re-dedicate herself to the Mother, to her duties and her people and she would leave all this foolishness behind.
