Chapter 40

Ishaan was about to be sick. The delegation had returned from the Flight but he’d heard nothing further from either the council or from Kathy so he’d been left entirely in the dark and the worry was rising up his throat in waves. What had she said? Had she even listened to his message? Would he get one in return? His head was stuffed with Carina and he had to know what had happened. He used the council directory to get Kathy’s phone number, ordinarily he’d never do this but he was dying and with every moment that passed and he heard nothing he died a little bit more.

“Hello?” Kathy’s voice came down the line. She sounded tired and sad and Ishaan’s gut clenched. “This is Kathy.”

It took two tries for Ishaan to make his voice come out. “Kathy, it’s Ishaan. Did you-“

“Ishaan, hi,” Kathy’s voice got sadder if that was possible. “I’ve got some news for you, do you want to meet at my place or should I come to you?”
