Glowing Eyes

"Oh..." Venera's voice was elongated at the end. "So this is what the vampire race looks like," Venera said, pointing to the people who looked at her and Caius along the way with stars dotting Venera's eyes.

All the vampires they passed had a purple or red glow in their eyes when they looked at Emily and Venera herself.

Hearing the little girl's words, Caius glanced at the others warningly. That one glance had such a strong deterrent effect, so the rest can only watch helplessly as Caius tightened his arms around his "food" in a protective manner.

"That's right," Caius smiled and asked, "Is Vera not afraid?"

From Caius' point of view, ordinary children would cry out of fear when they saw people with sharp fangs and unnaturally glowing purple or red eyes. However, Venera has always been a curious baby, and she is not afraid at all.

She has never seen such rare eye colors in the human race. Therefore, seeing such a unique scene is a novelty.

"I have told Brother before that I am not afraid." Venera puffed out her cheeks. "I am not a child anymore." Seeing Caius' pointed look on her, Venera determinedly emphasized her words with two syllables. "Really."

Venera's cheeks were bulging with air on both sides of her face, trying her very best to look like an adult.

She looked so adorable that Caius really wanted to reach out and pinch her cheek. He did not even know what her blood smelled or tasted like yet.

Thinking of this, Caius licked his lips.

For now, he only left a light poke on her puffy cheek.

That feeling on his index finger was unforgettable.

So soft.

Like cloud.

"Yes, yes, you are not a child anymore," Caius said with a gentle voice that held a hint of pampering. "Anyway, you will go through the Blood Moon rite later."

Venera stared at the man blankly. "A Blood Moon rite?"

There were many question marks in her head.

Blood Moon…

"A red moon?" Venera's eyes widen in surprise. She subconsciously looked up at the gray sky of the vampire realm with anticipation, but nothing greeted her sight.

The sky atop her head was a monotonous gray. There was no sun, no moon, and no stars. Just a blank gray that stretched out for miles as far as her little eyes could see.

"Yes, the moon will turn red." Caius' voice turned the little girl's attention back to the man. "This is so that Vera can hold my hand forever."

This answer showed that Caius did not simply think of Venera as his food. It was probably because he had never met such a strange and interesting person like Venera before that he acted this way, which was something very out of his character.

As the supreme ruler of the vampire race, Caius himself also feels very lonely.

"Okay, I will definitely hold my brother's hand all the time." Venera smiled and directly leaned her body on Caius' torso, rubbing her head on his chest like a little kitten in need of spoiling.

Very cute.

Caius suddenly felt that his heart skipped a beat. But vampires have no hearts, so why did he feel that there was a sudden heartbeat in his chest?

Looking at the little girl in his arms, an image of another person appeared in his mind. For a short moment, he remembered that there used to be a girl who liked to act like a baby to him. It's just that he has lived so long that he has forgotten who that girl is and what she looks like.

Thinking about it, his hold on Venera became tighter and tighter.

After entering the vampire castle, Caius' vampire subjects stared at the little girl in his arms, and Venera also looked back at them with curiosity, which could not be hidden in her eyes and gestures.

"What are you standing around and looking at us for?" Caius frowned, his tone turned solemn, and his whole body exuded a coldness that daunted everyone who watched him. "Continue with the ceremony."

Venera lightly tugged at Caius' clothes and said, "Brother, don't be so fierce."

The girl's voice is soft and sweet, like a scarlet berry, with a natural closeness that makes people feel happy when they hear it. This easily put out the fire in Caius' heart.

Everyone in the hall looked at Venera; their faces were full of shock and disbelief. It was not only because she called Caius "brother", but they also saw the gaze Caius had for the little girl. None of the vampires were blind.

"Okay, I will not be fierce," Caius replied. "Today is the day of our wedding, so there would be no bloodshed."

Caius left his words and nonchalantly walked towards his throne with Venera in his arms, amongst his vampire subjects' intense stares, and carefully placed Venera on one part of the throne before taking a seat beside her himself.

This is an unprecedented move!

How could those humans ever receive such extravagant treatment in the past?

Those eyes of the crowd below almost popped out of their sockets.

"What are you all staring at?"

It was only after Caius' stern words that everyone came back to their senses.

A vampire subject came forward and bowed, following the etiquette of the vampire race, towards the direction of the throne, saying, "This minister pays homage to the king and queen and wishes the king and queen a happy marriage that will last from moon to moon."

With this minister's example, the other ministers also walked forward in turn to greet the new queen one by one.

After this was over, Caius got up and carried Venera to the center of an altar.

"Let's commence the Blood Moon rite," Caius said to the crowd under him.

When Caius gave an order, the ministers dared not disobey. But this time, the order was just outrageous! The Blood Moon rite was usually only held when the vampire king's partner was a vampire, not a human! Just in what capacity does this little human have so she could be allowed to experience the vampire race's sacred tradition?
