The Ghost Of The Past

"Why are you so mean to your fiance? You should not treat her like that." A girl with a sweet voice said.

Elijah sighed but didn't say a word. After their short meeting with everyone, they went to Queens at Primrose. It was a mansion owned by the Wilson were their parents and their friends spent their high school days. Now it was their time to live together in that house.

"Why would you agree with the engagement anyway, if you don't like her? She's obviously in love with you." The girl continuously said.

Elijah frowned. He was resting his head on the couch while a book was covering his face. He was supposed to rest before dinner starts, but the girl kept on bugging her.

"Elijah! You know you can't ignore me!" The girl almost yelled.

He gritted his teeth and quickly stood up. He glared at the girl with brown hair and blue eyes.

"Why can't you stop bugging me? You never stopped talking. And why are you here anyway? You said you won't come here with me."

The girl laughed. "Correction, I'm not here because of you. I'm here because of my brother."

Elijah sighed. "Why can't you just leave me alone? You've been following me around for years. You said you're here because of your brother, then why don't you stay with him?"

The girl pouted. "But you're the only one who can see me. Whatever I do, brother keeps on ignoring me."

Elijah shook his head in dismay. "He never ignores you. You're dead a long time ago. I don't even know why I am the only one who can see your ghost."

The girl was Mireya Jade Richards. She died in her mother's womb during the attack at the palace twelve years ago.

Everyone thought she rested in peace. But for some reason, she appeared in front of Elijah the same day Benjamin Miller escaped from prison.

At first, Elijah thought she was real, but then she saw a painting of her in Caden's study. He asked the crown prince about her and learned that she was his sister.

Caden asked someone to paint a picture of his dead sister. Even though she was just months old in her mother's womb, Caden wanted Mireya to be remembered as a child so her appearance was painted based on Caden's request.

He knew it was a crazy idea. He felt like Caden was obsessed with his dead sister, even imagining her as a child. But he started to understand Caden, when he had a chance to talk to him.

"She died when I was six. She didn't even get the chance to see the world. I was a useless brother. I want to remember her as someone who had seen everything. I dreamed of her once and I know she wasn't ready to die. She wanted to live and experience everything. I was unable to protect her so I wanted to at least honor her memory with this painting." Caden said in a regretful tone.

Maybe one of the reasons Mireya suddenly came back was really because of her brother. He couldn't forget her and was still holding on to her.

"The blonde girl earlier, she's also my sister, right?" Mireya asked.

Elijah nodded. "Yeah, she's Caroline. She looks like you, the only difference is the color of your hair."

"I'm glad brother has another sister." Mireya said.

Elijah knew there was something behind her words. She was lonely. While Caroline could start her life with Caden by her side, Mireya will remain a memory to him.

"They found out about Alira and Caroline, I heard," Mireya whispered.

He looked at her and saw fear in her eyes. She shouldn't feel that way. She's already a ghost and no one could hurt her anymore. He sighed.

It's been three years since Mireya suddenly appeared. The palace was in chaos when they received news that Benjamin Miller had escaped from prison.

He was in his bedroom when he heard something in the bathroom. He thought someone broke into the palace but was surprised to see a girl with brown hair and a pair of blue eyes.

She looked like his Aunt Peggy. When he found out about Caden's dead sister, he was unsure why he didn't get scared. She was harmless and she just wanted to see her brother so he let her be.

"Hey, don't be afraid. You know they can't harm you." He said in a gentle voice.

She was his cousin. Half-cousin to be exact. His father, the king, and her mother, Aunt Peggy, were step-siblings.

"I'm scared that someone might get hurt again. Like what happened three years ago." She said.

He didn't say a word and just smiled at her. He couldn't promise her anything because something might really happen.

They heard a knock on the door, making Mireya's face lighten up. He chuckled and then went to the door to open it.

"I'm fine. Why do you still come in my room in the middle of the night? We're not in Flousia." He said.

Mireya glared at him and he finds it cute whenever she does that. His guest was Caden. He would drop by to his bedroom, stay for an hour, and leave.

He was annoyed at first, but he couldn't just kick him outside. He was the crown prince after all. Caden confessed that he somehow felt guilty that he would be the next king.

He was just the King's nephew, while Elijah was the son. But he clearly told him that he was not a bit interested to become the next king.

"Did you tell Alira about your secret?" He asked Caden.

Caden sighed. "Not yet. I don't think she has to know."

He shook his head in disbelief. "I think you have to tell her. She's your fiance. And those men will come here, right?"

Caden nodded. "Yeah. But don't worry, they're here to risk their lives for me and my family. They will not hurt you.

He glared at Caden with his sarcasm. He couldn't forget the day he found out about his secret because it was the day he thought his life would end.
