Chapter 5: School trip

Date: 19-03-2015

The school trip was to the ocean. I was very frustrated about it. Normally I can manage my friendly face. But I had a frown after hearing the decision. Nothing I could do about it.

The school arranged the buses, the management team, our location for staying there for 3 days, our meal arrangements and various other details. Finally the date was fixed and announced. The day of the journey the students had to go to the school at 6 am which made a lot of students complain about it. The problem was those complaints were to me and it annoyed me very much. What can I do about it ?

Five buses for five classes. Everyone got on the buses by 7 am and the journey began. It was an uneventful journey. Buses stopped at a restaurant when it was lunch time and after lunch the journey continued. We arrived at the beach at 7:43 pm. We were all tired and quickly went to each other's hotel rooms.

There were five students in each room but the rooms were spacious so it didn't matter. I just wanted to sleep after having dinner but I couldn't. I had to check all my classmates Rijon was with me but that didn't make it any less tedious. Like that we were now in a hotel in front of the ocean.

The next day began with me checking my classmates again. After that I had breakfast with my grade. It did not taste good to me. It was very bland. I just didn't like the taste. My mom's food with a lot of spices ruined my taste buds for many foods. So I wanted something spicy but I had to buy that with money which I didn't have. My family was middle class at best and we could barely afford ourselves each month. When my father heard about the cost of the trip he almost had a heart attack I tried to convince him that I didn't have to go to the trip and we just needed to write an application to the vice dean which I was more than happy to do so but my mom protested that it was a good experience for me to go and not doing so would excloud me from the rest of the class.

So naturally my father gave in and here we are. I didn't have any money with me because I didn't ask for any. I didn't want to inconvenience my family more than I had already done.

When Andy saw me making a sour face he asked me what was wrong and I told him I wanted to buy something but I didn't have any money because I forgot to ask my parents. He for some reason took money out of his bag and when I saw the amount I almost had a heart attack. I knew my friends were rich but I didn't know how much. I guess having rich friends pays off.

Andy bought me what I wanted to eat. My study group friends all stayed together we were running around the beach, making a sand castle which was more of a block than a castle. The only thing I didn't do was go swimming in the ocean. When I saw my classmates play in the ocean and swimming around I wanted to do it too but I couldn't and that frustrated me. I made a promise to myself that I would learn to swim by next year.

Just like that three days came to an end and at 7 pm on the last day we boarded our buses on a return trip.

I thought it was going to be a very bad experience for me but it wasn't that bad I have fun memories of that time my friends were nice we played around the beach, playing pranks on girls and eating many exotic dishes. It was a good journey and I only wish I could swim at the time.

This journey showed me even in an unfortunate situation things could be manageable if it was properly handled. I learned a lot on this trip from how my plan failed to how it made me determined to learn swimming and I thank my mom for forcing me to go on this trip.
